Small drill press?

Just curious if anyone has any recommendation for a small bench top drill press. I could really use one just don't have the space for something too big.

There were several still around the last time I looked. We were told they were going to dry up because there was no good way to make them cost less. Anyway, in no order for quality or price, Look for Sears, Grizzly, Woodtek, Micromark, Harbor Freight/Northern tool (same stuff), and Wen.

As with anything I'd say it depends on what you're looking to do. Currently looking at a Proxxon one myself for small work.

I've often drooled over the prices Micromark list and wish could get similar here.

It's all about your budget - although I agree that the Dremel version is really not viable.
I have the Harbor Freight version and while it's been relatively trouble-free it does have some slight wobble so it's not accurate enough to turn wheels. I suspect changing the bearings could fix it...I just haven't bothered because it's been good enough for what I do.

Grizzly (in general) is a step up in price and quality....and then you can go to good stuff like the vertical mills from Micromark for multi-function work.

Get the best tool you can afford, and you can keep it for years.

It is footprint you are usually worried about. I had a dremel but when the the dremel burned out the new one had a different shape and the thing was useless. I have my mill and a huge drill press. The footprint for the huge one is no bigger than the mill. I would get one like Harry suggested or a little bigger. Just take a tape measure and compare the difference in the footprint vs. the space you can set aside vs. the money you have. Tools have many uses besides slot cars.

I have the Dremel workstation and it is fine for my needs. My ryobi drill press just wasn't accurate enough and I recently sold it.

I find the Dremel used in their workstation too fast, which can be very hard on bits.
