Its named for the Bourbons, but it came along long after they were founded in the 13th Century. There is quite a debate over who started it. I lean toward New Orleans, not only because I like New Orleans, but Bourbon Street in the French Quarter is only one of dozens of 100+year-old places and things that were named for the French family that ruled in France, Spain, Italy, England, and what became Germany. There are those who say it was named for the county in Kentucky where almost all of it is made to this day (Bardstown is in Bourbon County).
