Check out this sweet resin kit - 1929 Ford Roadster

Postby MoparGreg » Mon Jul 08, 2013 5:09 am

Hi guys,
Ive always wanted to build a Ford 1929 Ford roadster with a 1932 Ford hood & grille. Ive been getting keen for a while. Ive seen a few 1:1 1929 Fords with 1932 ford hoods & grilles & I have to say this combo is my favourite ford Hotrod by far. Just looks sweet. Anyway I found out a resin company called Replica & Miniatures of Maryland have this exact kit a a good price. I had heard some great comments about there resin casting is the best there is. So I ordered the kit & it recently arrived.

Man what a piece of work, artwork that is. Ive taken some pics of the body & this is straight out of the box with no cleanup. This is the sharpest, cleanest thinnest resin kit Ive seen. So thin Im not so sure it will be any good for a slot car.

Heres a quick pic of the body, pic does it no justice.

But what I wasnt expecting, which is the main reason Im showing this is all the warning that come with it. Im almost to scared to start this thing. This on the outside of the box -

This note was inside the box, on the lid of another small box the body was in -

So heres another note, that was on the inside. Im guessing this is a question for David the resin guru. What do you think of this note? Ive never painted my bodies inside & out. Can you warp a body by only painting one side? This is interesting & something Ive never really thought of. Comments please -

Image

Included was also 2 sets of instructions of dos & donts. Quite amazing. As a whole this is probably up there with one of the best resin pieces Ive seen. Im a little nervous to start it but I will in the future.

WOW! Nice kit! Think they had issues in the past with a customer? I've not seen that kind of warnings before on a model kit. Maybe I should start doing some of that LOL!

So David have you ever seen any warpage on a body if you only paint one side?

The early Fords are some of the easiest models to find, so I don't know why they chose it to cast. Also, what is so important about the thinness of the material? If its too weak or fragile, cast it thicker for cryin' out loud. This whole thing is really mysterious. I can't help but be suspicious. People sometimes get full of themselves sometimes and make products that have some unique feature that is pointless. We see this in slot cars all the time. I wonder if this is one of those.

This kit is really for model building, not really for a slot car. Rob I agree with what you are saying. To thin is hopeless particularly for slot cars. Davids bodies are perfect in my opinion for slotcar racing. I think in the model building world people want thin castings to best replicate 1:1 cars. Not sure, really. The reason I purchased this as I wanted a 29 ford body & 32 ford hood & grille. I had a look at my kits & its not as straight forward as it sounds. Half the work is done with the resin kit.

Makes sense. I have had a Model T Speedster Torpedo in mind for years, and I thought sure that was what this post was about. Now I'm back to looking for an appropriate cone shape in plastic for the tail. Oh well.

Gosh, that resign is cast finer than most plastic kits. This one definitely seems intended for a show stopper. You'd get some nice rust holes in it that fine without too much work. :)

A nice piece of work....completely at the other end of the resin spectrum than say AA bodies or some of the Spanish pieces which do not warp or curl up due to their thickness.

The Goldilocks syndrome comes to mind.... mine is too thick, mine is too thin, mine is just right !
