HRW 1/25TH Vintage NASCAR SERIES – Land Barges & Zippertops! – 2024 Summer Showdown

This series covers a small time frame in NASCAR history.  We are modeling what we jokingly refer to as “land barges”. Those late 59 to 64 cars that were long, lumbersome, and likely the worst candidates to make a race car with.

We also are featuring the famous convertible (aka zippertops) series. This was a short-lived but popular one that featured some incredible racing.  We are modeling the main 4 year period ONLY. 1956 to 1959.

So you can model ONE of each for the event.

ONE Land Barge with the year rule of 1959 to 1964. Car MUST have raced in the series.
NO El Caminos, trucks, Cadillacs,Lincolns, Hearse, VW’s, etc. Not sure? ASK. Or Google is your friend.

ONE Zippertop! with the year rule 1956 to 1959. This was the main 4 year series. Although they did have special events at Darlington, etc until 62, we are sticking with the MAIN 4 YEAR period.

AGAIN, car must have raced in the series. Common sense and research BEFORE buying a kit is highly advised.

You CAN create fictional paint schemes BUT they must appear period correct. In other words, look like they COULD have raced during that time period.

SATURDAY, July 20  – 2024!

*Mail in deadline – 17 JULY*

Please get the models in by this date. It takes time to hold the SHAKEDOWN where we tune and test the models before the race.

Our guidelines are a mix of beginner and veteran modeler skill levels. The goal is simply to get YOU involved in the fun this larger scale has to offer. Hopefully it also motivates you to start more scratch building.

ONE CAR PER CLASS ENTRY ONLY.

NO minimum weight. It’s a barge.

Older Pro-Track or current H&R chassis are allowed. No other brands.
Track clearance: 1/8 is a good minimum to start but can go as low 3/32. SEE ABOVE
I include this minimum due to some of the chassis like H&R being in between the two heights in many cases.
NEW SCC Motor brackets encouraged.

Running Gear:

CB Design Series all around.

H&R/Protrack allowed but must be correct size and width.
You can choose between smooth (ribless) wheels or the newer wheels with inner rib.

Tire width should not exceed 12.5 MM. Which will be no issue as you must use the PG Tires listed.
You can utilize 3/32 or 1/8 axle bore.
Gear ratios are your choice. I will suggest 9/27 or 9/28 as this seems the best on our size oval.
Slot.it, Scaleauto, Parma, H&R, JK gears allowed.
Guide can be larger commercial grade or any Sloting Plus, Slot.it, Scaleauto 1/32 guide.
Your choice of braid.

If using smooth wheels without the inner rib, 28120 or 26120

NO OTHER TIRE ALLOWED ON THE REAR

Older foams or older urethane/rubber allowed on fronts only.

Overall diameter should be no less than 26mm. These are not LMP or low profile type cars.

Bodies:

Common sense should be your guide.
1959 to 1964 LAND BARGE
1956 to 1959 ZIPPERTOP
American sedan 1/25th or 1/24th plastic model kit body that they used in the series.
No El Caminos, Rancheros, or Trucks.
I will suggest 1/25th. There is a difference albeit slight in some cases.
NO short box models. That means no Mustangs/Camaros, etc.
If you find a kit, simply ASK US and we will make the call.
NO resin or clear lexan bodies. Standard model kit bodies only.

Modeling Notes:
This series follows the same spirit as our 1/32 Showdown.
It is about MODELING as much as performance. Try to recreate a car that would look the part on the track during that time. Added scale detail is HIGHLY encouraged!

Wheels/Tires must be INSIDE the body. NO enlarged fenders or flares.
Must have interior. Simple flat stock with driver and roll bar accepted.
NO lexan formed trays. They look horrible and this is about MODELING as well as performance.
Must have glass in place. Either kit or clear plastic you had to make.
Body to track clearance should be 1/8 and not to exceed 3/32. Any lower and you risk dragging.
Models will be painted to match the style NASCAR used at the time. Either model a 1:1 prototype or create your own style.
Again, common sense here. There is no shortage of photographs for you to use as a guide.
Wheels should look like the time period. Basically plain steel wheels.

Either inserts or the CB Design Steelies.

NO LMP or any style wheel patterns that do match the time period.
