Oval Racing @ SMALL TORQUE MOTOR SPEEDWAY-Long Island, NY

Tony hosted a pre season rules meeting last night and later ran a non points event for the 1/24 Reality Modifieds. The new braided, routed MDF 4 lane oval proved to be his best track build yet -- smooth and quick with it's 14' straights and slightly banked turns.
The track is rubbering up nicely, without the use of any messy sticky stuff to help it along. BIG E's and Trinity tire conditioners were all that the drivers have used on their Pro Track rear tires to break in the track surface. The race ran well with drivers running computer controlled lane rotation format, 2 minute heats on each lane. The new "dead strip" digital lap counter worked flawlessly and without question. There were a few of the typical open wheel wrecks and and a couple of big time wipeouts where one driver would take out the entire field! After more than 200 laps, Lenny's black "Pork Chop Racing" #88 just beat out Ernie's red "Race T-Jets" #14 by less than half a lap for the win. There were many wheel to wheel, lap after lap battles during the race, and the track proved to be very drivable in those types of situations. We'll be running 4 1/2" Parma FCR "Hardbody" cars and "Womp" based Supermods also, with the Reality Mods as the anchor series. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks...

Looks like a great oval - just enough banking on this newly built track.

The lane color dots actually seem like a good way to go. I know South Shore Speedway in Patchogue, NY realigns the race cars after wrecks (like an actual modified race), and uses one foot or two foot spacing between positions. If the dots were placed uniformly it could help drivers in setting up restart positions just by eye...

Anyway, the Modifieds look ready to do some serious racing and I can see the high groove is taking on the rubber. If all the lanes are fast it makes for more fun. I know driver rotation evens it all up, but if you can hold your own on the outside lane then it makes for better racing - more fun!

I think you can post 800px (or even wider?) on this forum - so if you can go with bigger images, that is even better.

Looks like some CLOSE competition there! I was watching the two inside lanes run nearly side by side for the last half of the vid before the "yellow flag". :D

TuscoTodd racing is close and lots of fun, tonight we were running 2 seconds flat on the inside yellow lane, I'm sure under race pace we will be in the 1.98 range.

WOW - that is movin' right along and if the racing is as much door to door, pick your pass points as the vid above - it has to make for some wild / adrenalin filled racing! :D
