My Carrera Panamericana Mercury

Having a genuine interest in the Carrera Panamericana series, past and present, I thought I'd take a shot at one. A 1:32 scale 1949 Mercury. Still need some photos of the chassis.




The color was chosen because most of the photos researched are cars of light color. Probably because these early model Carrera Panamericana cars did not have air conditioning and I’m sure day time temperatures got pretty hot in Mexico.

Excellent looking car Ray! I think you are right on the color too - I know in the southwestern states of the US, Chevy in particular made lot of cars with white tops...I used to see tons of Novas, etc. with painted white tops to reflect the heat.

I would like to give my whole hearted approval as well....a great model.
There were some very interesting cars in that race series....four or five years and then a revival in more recent times.

I would really like to get my hands on a 1/32 Studebaker coupe. There are lots of liveries to copy from the Carrera Panamericana. Do any of the resin casters out there make one? Anyone, Anyone?

That would make a cool race to see your Merc and a Stud racing on someone's scenic rally track.

I appreciate that Ray, your builds inspire me too! Your '34 Panel and the little Hot Rod that you had posted on the old Rad Trax website are two of my favorites.

The decals can really change the flavor of a car! I don't usually build cars that actually raced, but it seems to me the proper decals would be crucial to making the car look realistic.
