Mach 1 street car started

Picked up this kit from Hobby Lobby. It is 1/24 scale and is quite a decent kit, offering a lot of options to build.

Wanting to make the Mach 1 for some street racing cars, I got a little crazy and made a clear resin grill with amber lights suspended in the resin. I tried out the lights and it should look OK. I think the Mach 1 is the only Mustang with lights in the grill this year.

The chassis is a stretched Carrera breadvan. I got a couple of these and sold off the bodies.

It looks a bit rough, but more glue is better I think in this situation.

The wire wheel inserts for the Ferrari pop out very easily and the model car wheels fit perfectly. Magnum 500's for this car.

More when I get it done!

Nice build. It will be interesting to see how that light up grill works out.

That's coming along nicely, Ken. Suspending the lights in resin was a great idea. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Slick how the inserts pop out and those fit that well.

Cool stuff all the way sir.

A little progress on the car and a bit of background.

Here is my boy at age 16 in the car I built for him. He drove this in 10th grade. We had a bit of a falling out and I sold it. He is a lot less troublesome now so I am building a smaller version to match. His was not a Mach 1 but we added some pieces to make it look closer.

Here is the car as it is coming along. Almost ready.

The lights look OK, but are not as bright as I thought they would be.

I got to fix this brake light bleed out, but this will be on the track next race.

Already planning the next one- a Road Runner with "dog dish" hub caps!

Yeah, that looks fantastic! I think those front lights look just fine, and the wheels are great.

Don't forget to model the PA inspection stickers on the windshield!

I paid $1500 for the real one back in the day. Pulled out from a muddy spot behind a barn and had to weld a couple of pieces on it. Almost impossible to find deals like that anymore, which is why building the smaller scale ones is so much fun. Lots more affordable.
