Though Heller took the checkered flag in the midget main, it wasn't preordained. Five of the eleven drivers scored under a small two-point blanket in the close 50 lap contest. Runner-up Mike Lengel was a point behind Heller and one ahead of the trio of Trevor Kobylarz, Lee Greenawalt, and Dyke Becker. The tie-breaker gave Kobylarz, with no wrecks, third place over Greenawalt who nipped Becker for fourth. For Heller, it was his 50th SCORE feature victory.
Usually, Tim Musser leaves the track after his round of segments in the nightcap, however, there were so few wrecks in the midget race that he hung around to see how he would finish in the USAC dirt champ 75 lapper. He didn't have to wait long as one by one his competition failed to capture enough points to topple Musser's 48 markers. It was Musser's first trip to victory lane in almost three years. Three points down, Carey Becker put some breathing room between himself and the rest of the drivers vying for the divisional point title by copping second place. Heller earned the third spot over Greenawalt while Dave Balloch grabbed fifth via less wrecks against Lengel.
