One of my more unusual slot cars...

Along with slot cars my other hobby is RC particularly F1 so I came across this on Ebay and it was listed as a slot car. I knew it was a 1/12 Tamiya F1 so I figured it was a typo and put in a bid on it of $19.99 and I won it. I opened it up and flipped it over and found that it actually had a guide on it along the lines of the old SCX/Nincos in that the guide moves the front wheels. Now I'd like to see that size of the track it ran on to say the least. The guide will be removed and it'll go back to being an RC car.

WOW!, you scored that for $19.99!! Great buy! I used to have one of there 1/12 Can Am (I think) cars, it was a hoot.

That things cool but huge. It had to run on some outdoor or ground track. There's no way you would have room to run that in a normal venue.

It would take up several lanes on an 8 lane track. Lol

I guess that the way to run that would have been in the center lanes of an 8 lane track. Either wire the motor direct to the guide like a slot car, or leave the receiver and speed control in the car and use a jumper between the white and black terminals on the track to provide constant power, then run the car using the transmitter, just without steering it.

BTW, I think those Tamiya F1 cars were 1/10 scale not 1/12.

If you are going to convert that car back to RC, can I have the "slot car" parts? I have an old Tamiya Sauber that I would love to convert like that just for fun.

Maybe it was run on a commercial 8 lane track, where there would be plenty of room on either side for some single car cruising. But the depth of the flag doesn't appear to tell us that story. Perhaps the seller can enlighten you to it's previous use?
