Well that's a waste of breath then, don't worry about it guys, its probably crap and useless, my mistake for thinking someone didn't want their cars to waggle like ducks when they came off a corner...

Jeremy I apologize,

I just exploded with mirth when I saw Leadfingers post, it really made my day, the man has humor.

You know, I honestly dread posting anything on slot car boards much anymore, particularly doing reviews because there is always the "troll" factor in the wings waiting to pick up on anything they can to make some mileage (for whatever reason).

I really enjoyed the years I had in the hobby that I didn't contribute, they were peaceful and productive years for me.

The truth is I have so little time to sit down and spend with stuff nowadays, this post being a case in point. No, I didn't research and scrutinize this item fully, I took a quick look and thought it resembled a differential, obviously I was mistaken, that is a pity, I have big shoulders I will cope with making the mistake...

Right now though I need to be in a car heading for Brisbane for an archery tournament, that where I need to be focused.

Hopefully we will have a properly functioning diff to talk about one day!

"Ok Ive had another look at the slipper clutch and as best as I can make out it provides no "diff" action at all. As best as I can make out it is nothing more than an "o" ring that presses against the spur and you tension in the amount of slip you want. Which takes me back to my electronic solution, with a good controller, to tone down brute motors."

I thought Id read it somewhere before. Turns out I wrote it. Damn Alzheimer's. Name calling?? Where was that??

cheers

From the product description:
"The Slipper is a power doser mechanism. Would be like an automatic clutch, that goes into running only when power is applied. Consists in making a controlled "skid" on one of the gears so when the engine delivers 100% of this power this is transferred to the axles progressively."

That is not just an O-ring with a nut to adjust tension. Notice the text says "axles"- plural. An O-ring alone would not do what this description is talking about. There has to be something else going on. So, what is that massive thing on the back side of the spur gear?

Not to put down the slipper clutch, but wouldn't it be cheaper to just remotor the car? I love technical stuff like this. I remember back in the '60's Classic tried something about as techie as this, except it was a braking thingie which I don't think was adjustable. It never really caught on, kind of like fully independent suspensions which weighed way too much to be fast, but they did look neat as heck. :)

This slipper clutch is a neat idea, and a limited slip differental would all so be neat to play with. I even tried to make a limited slip differental for slot cars once back in the late 1970's using a small clutch and throw weights. But then standard practic on full size dirt track stock cars back then was to weld up the spider gears in the differental to make it a straight axle for better traction and bite comming out of the corners and down the straight. So I don't see this as a big new speed or cornering advantage. But it is a neat idea.

Yeah, Foot! I remember that thing. I'll look in some of my old catalogues and see if I can find it. It would be great to find a picture.

Jeremy,

You need an ATHENS ARCHERY compound bow from Athens (Rochester) Indiana...

I just got back from the first two rounds of the competition, am in the National Champions group (another Queenslander, what can I say, we are the Kings of OZ :) ), I ended up being nearly a target up on him (18 points) shooting IFFA animal.

This is good for me, I used to be a Master grade shooter ten years ago, nothing in the league of the National Champion, was in A Grade last season (top of), changed from a Hoyt Ultra Elite to the Athens Excell and bam, am on top.

They are that good and great value too!

Yes the peanut gallery, as I said this morning, just don't have the time to pour over everything with slot cars anymore, its sad to see such open regressive tendencies expressed, but hey, lets let others lead, we will listen, hopefully learn, but from what I've seen these same ones generally dont put forward a lot unless its critiquing others.

Tall Poppy syndrome we call it over here in Oz....

For a start nobody has tried the slipper clutch yet, either it reduces your lap times or it doesen't. Presuming it works there are several factors to be considered, one of those is cost. The slipper clutch costs as much as an entire car and unlike a sophisticated controller you would have to buy one for each car. If you race your cars cost might not be as much of a consideration. My club would not be likely to allow the slipper clutch because everyone would buy one, so everyone would have spent their money to no advantage.
