Few questions about resin bodies

I've never used a resin body but I'm wondering a few things. Are they heavier then regular slot bodies? Do the break easier or about the same? What do you glue them with?
Do they warp or deform as resin ages? Thankyou in advance.

Resin does get soft easier than injection molded styrene or abs plastic. If you have something doesn't fit right or is mis-shapen a little, hold it under hot water and it will soften up and allow you to re-shape it. Most resin is a little more brittle, but I haven't used them all, so I am only going by what I know. I use Smoothon Smoothcast and it can break! I wanted a red Cox 2E. I made all my parts and painted it Sunrise Red. The first time it took a good hit, the front corner broke off! I super glued it back on, and now it has a nice crack showing across the front!!

The "brittle" factor in resin bodies might be linked to the shore hardness of the resin.
I use a 65 shore hardness resin....the next step up is 72 shore hardness from my supplier.

I am guessing the harder/higher shore resin will be more brittle.

'If your resin body supplier doesnt know the resin shore hardness of their product then maybe they should.

The higher the shore number the firmer/harder the material is. For silicone tires a fairly high shore is good, but for a plastic body, probably a lower number, not so hard plastic might be better. There are so many products and additives available that there may be some stuff available that is perfect for car bodies.

I am onto my fourth 10 litre x 2 containers of the 65 shore stuff.

The Hardness vs flexibility vs stability seems about right.

A little harder is OK for my purpose too.

I also think the ambient temperatures have something to do with success of mixing/pouring/casting.

One other thing i have noted in my limited experience casting, is that resins that mix 1;1 have to be very close or perfect to achieve the proper quality and hardness. I have accidentally added more of one than the other by a thin margin, and had the body come out very brittle, and discolored.

In an attempt to create fender fares (sic?) on a resin body by gluing strips of sheet styrene, what glue would be best to use for this bond?

Hello Bob, I have had it the other way...the stuff is discoloured but remains limp/gooey/soft.

For glueing plastic to resin I would reach for my very thin CA glue.

Thanks, John. This is my first time working with resin bodies. The D Jag is going to get rear fender flares to fit onto a chassis that I'll use.
