Lime Rock Park scoring tower Version 2

Postby turbokev » Wed Nov 05, 2014 7:43 pm

I can't contain my excitement over what my Dad is up to now :D

When we went to Lime Rock in September and displayed the match stick building, we had the opportunity to see the Michelin Tower up close
and walk around in it taking pictures and noting different details.. That led to discussions of a possible 'Version 2' of the building.. Well
discussions have turned in to reality and my Dad is hard at work creating an even more accurate and amazing scale version of the Lime
Rock Park scoring and timing building.

This one is being done with individual match sticks like the last one, but it will have solid walls and floors, not the open concept of the last version.
The rooms are now where they belong, the staircases we didn't know about are being modeled, and details like fire extinguishers, display cases,
plaques, even a water cooler.. are all being modeled in match sticks. Version 1 of this building was incredible.. Version 2 is going to drop your jaw

This is a slower build process due to the additional lumber, drawings and details so updates might be farther apart, but I wanted to share the journey
with my friends here on HRW.. I know a lot of you got a kick out of the last one and will appreciate the work that is going in to this one.

So, here are the first pictures I've got.. Enjoy!

All these pictures are looking at the rear of the building.. and reveal the angled walls, display case,
stairway and doorways we didn’t know where there when the first version was built.

The plaques on the walls are of lap records, Trans Am winners, important people from LRP history etc.
This is what they look like 1:1

..and just for reference.. This is the rear of the building, on the observation deck end in Version 1:

..and this is the same end of the building on Version 2 now that we know what it looks like:

Gives you an idea of how my Dad is taking it up a notch on this new version.. It's awesome!

It's absolutely amazing the talent some people have. Me, I'm not good with wood, not much of a carpenter, but I admire those who are. :)

Here's a little weekend update.. The main building has been raised up on to the newly designed stilts.
When we saw them in person, Dad got a better idea of how high those lower sleeves came up, and how thick the posts were.
The sleeve is not glued in place on the scale version so that if the board the building sits on is not perfectly level, they can move
slightly up and down to accommodate that difference and keep all the legs looking like they are flat on the ground..

Here are tonight’s pictures.. Starting with an overhead of the main floor~
