Bolton's Speed Shop's new 4 lane oval

Hey Guys,

Well it has been a long time coming but I finally put the time in and finished the majority of my 4 lane oval. There are always details to add along the way. This has been a stalled project I finally regained interest in. It is built on a 2' x 6' 8" hollow core door. It incorporates 6" and 9" curve sections for nice tight racing. The mountains/scenery were built from "Great Stuff" spray foam in a can then I take an old sponge and various color acrylic paints and sponge paint the scenery colors on the mountains. I printed the advertisement off on a color laser printer and spray adhesive it on the back and put them in place along with the grand stand photos.

The late model sportsman bodies are plastic bodied hot wheels cars called "Maximum Leeway" that I took the bodies off the Hot Wheels chassis and Velcro taped onto AFX G plus chassis with the old foam tires to get them to slide through the corners like the real cars do. I painted and decaled a few of the bodies with various decals I purchased off of ebay. The structures were vintage slot car track buildings I acquired from slot shows and off ebay.

I really enjoy building these small 4 lane hollow core door tracks! There is a lot of detail and racing excitement in a small package!!!!

Even if you don't have a lot of room for a large layout this only takes up a 2' x 7' space and sets up and breaks down to store easily.

A big shout goes out to many of you for the detail items I received from your generosity and in swaps.

So with that I bring on the pics for your enjoyment.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys for all the kind comments!

I know this track has been a long drawn out build and I kept promising pics so I wanted to share it with everyone to show just how easy a build like this is.

Maximum enjoyment in a small package!

I will post more pics as I build more classes of Saturday night short track cars and such. I want to build a field of old coupes much like all of you are doing in 1/32. With time more fun in building will come.

I'm pleased everyone has enjoyed what I was able to accomplish thus far.

Take care,

Hey Rusty!

Thanks!

Just wait and see what I have planned for that drag track I got from you.......

I plan on putting it on a shelf down my basement and building it to look like a vintage drag strip with all the scenery and such.

In time I will get it accomplished also.

I have a lot of vintage drag cars wanting to tear up that quarter mile!!!!

I can't wait!!!!!

Hey Jeff!

Thanks!

It was a lot of fun!

I got kind of stalled out there for awhile until I finally got a vision of just what I wanted to build.

Sometimes you need to take a step back and a break for those ideas to start flowing again.

Tinkering with my Lionel train layout in the mean time gave me time to just do that.

Thank you for the kind words again!

I very much appreciate it!!!!

Awesome! Non mag T-Jets for me on that tight little circle.
I'm curious... does the hollow door resonate noise when the cars run, as opposed to a solid door?
I've only had experience with a solid door, which was pretty quiet (and heavy!). We did not run modern magnet cars, though.
Thanks for the look. Good luck and enjoy your new little speedway! -- Ernie :>)

Hey Guys!

Thanks!

Ernie, I have this 4 lane road course also on a hollow core door and it doesn't have much noise on the hollow core door.

I haven't raced on the 4 lane oval yet but I don't expect any noise out of it either?

I caulked the track to the top of the hollow core door which will provide some insulation between the track and door also to keep the noise down. The hollow core doors are light and fairly solid just for these type of builds. They work great.

Plenty of t-jet racing coming up on this track magnetless for sure!!! I want to build a field of old dirt track coupes and Saturday night short trackers on t-jet chassis. Look for more pics to come in the future.
