All 3D printed Can Am cars.....3D printing has been a great addition to this hobby. A little work and you have cars not available anywhere else.
These cars are all Slot it pod, sidewinder, and right in there with the Slot It Can Am cars. Slot it Can Am's run around 11.0 to 11.3 on the track. The 3D cars will be a few of 10ths slower with a few exceptions that run right with them. Most of these files came from "nimrod".....let one of us know if you would like an STL.

Great work, Steve!
A dozen CanAm cars in scale....and the files if you want to make some modifications to the bodies.....
Chassis to match...... what's not to like????
Awesome...4 Shadows, 2BRMs....March, Lola, Chaparral, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo....
And I spy a 312P in the background.....

What’s not to like?
Availability. How about someone to print them out for those of us that don’t have a 3D printer? Something like a one man version of Shapeways?

Great looking lineup. I am planning on getting a printer going here in the near future. I have a strong love for Can Am so you will be hearing from me!

This is the future of 3d printing. Like computers, those with pioneering spirit will take a hands on approach to develop and move the technology along. Once critical things are in place,i.e STL files of interest, the resr of us will buy the printers for printing out files we can obtain.
All of use computers now and only a small percentage of us know how they do what they do, likewise with 3d printing. There are enough obtainable files of interest to warrant buying a printer and make it useful without ever learning CAD design.
Are these files available?

Dan - I think you're right. However a concern I have is will the 3D printers an average guy can afford have the quality and resolution we might want? An average computer can run gaming software, but to get the best experience a gaming system is recommended.
Your point about not having to know the ins and outs of 3D file creation still holds, but how much of an investment in a printer is needed to produce things like those great looking Can Am cars?

If a decent 3D printer can be had for around $200 that's amazing, because I'm about to spend $150 for a new ink jet printer.
racer1h - what printer was used for the Can Am cars? How much would you estimate it costs in filament for a car, and how long to print one?
Thanks.

I use a QIDI X-One -2 ........bodies take 12 to 15 hours to print.....roll of filament is about 20$.
Don’t know for sure but somewhere between 15 and 20 bodies and all there parts from one roll.

Printers are under $300. A spool of filament is about $20 which will make at least 10-12 cars (body and chassis).
The Ender3 is on Amazon right now for$230. So it's easy and relatively inexpensive.

Hi All,
@ Barc1, the stl files are free to whoever wants them, as soon as a model is cleaned up and ready, Steve and Paul will usually test it, Thanks guys
Then I'll send a mass Email with the files. But anyone who receives the files can share them.
Also if you have car in mind and no one produces it, send me an PM, I enjoy hunting them down.
The Ender really is a great little printer, I use a Wombot, but their construction is virtually identical.
Just be ready to tinker a little. It is still not a 100% success rate, but if your one to scratch build your cars or even build your own scenery, then it won't be too much trouble at all.
It opens up so much for the imagination, your own designs, alterations to existing models, almost anything goes.
Chappy, you missed the Ti22 at the back ;)
Cheers
