Bob, I've had a similar experience with mine. I bought the red one with the long sloping roof. It is very noisy and shakey, and doesn't run at all as smoothly as you have come to expect from a Ninco classic. No doubt the front-mounted motor and drive shaft contributes to this. Also the clamshell construction makes it difficult to uncouple the body from the chassis without major surgery.

Mine was not that bad really. Some people love them, some not. In this series it appears there is a variance in QC that we usually don't see often.

My next action will probably be to remove and replace the coil spring drive shaft connector with some plastic tubing as there did seem to be excessive vibration. After that maybe a switch to a milder motor than the 20k type provided. The car is not disappointing, I just think it can run better.

Love the car, but mine actually wouldn't move as it had major problems with the rear wheels and tires being stuffed into the fenders. Took a little work but it runs well now. I still love stock Ninco rubber for these on my wood track.

Thanks for the tip on this, Bob. I just picked up a few of these just minutes ago.

I have the plain red one, and was also not too impressed at how it first ran straight from the box. The NC-9 is too over-powered for how I'd like the Classics to run. I swapped the NC-9 to an NC-8, removed the magnet, and ditched the spring in the drivetrain for some magical clear tubing that our illustrious Janitor had graciously provided, and it made a world of difference. The car's long wheelbase combined with it's short track means that it's not going to rival a Ninco XK120, Ferrari 250 TR, or Corvette, (maybe it will if you leave the magnet in there) but it's still fun to drive.
