The mailman brought me a package today that I have been anticipating. Since I started back in slot cars and switched to 1/32 scale I have been eyeing the Ferraris from Racer. When they recently announced the 250 GTO LM64 in their Silverline I knew which one I wanted. Last week a windfall check from my old 401K administrator arrived and it was almost enough to get the Ferrari so I placed the order. It arrived today and it looks terrific. I took it down to the track and after only sanding the tires and lubing the bushings I took it for a whirl. It turned some respectable laps but I knew it could do more. I pulled out a set of PG tires and put them on the rear hubs while I also removed the fronts and trued them on my old JK truer which now works much better after finding a rubber "O" ring belt that fit perfectly. After all the tires were sanded true and mounted on the car it now turns laps comparable to my Slot.It classics. Just a little slower due to it's weight penalty.

The paint and markings are spot on. The wire wheels are masterpieces. Compared to my Monogram Ferrari 250 GTO LM64 the Racer version is somewhat larger, probably closer to 1/30th scale and there are some shape differences especially the roof line and windshield shape. There are also some differences around the nose. I'm not an expert so I can't comment on which car is closer in shape to the real thing. I have always liked the looks of the Monogram car all the way back to the 1960's but I am afraid it doesn't hold much of a candle to the new Racer model and of course the running gear being from Slot.It is miles ahead of the sebring chassis under the Monogram model.

OK, I've had it out of it's "garage" and driven it but I think it will spend most of it's time with me in the case and on the shelf, and most definitely never raced, except maybe against other Racer cars.

That is a sweet looking car. I really like what Racer has made thus far. Glad to hear it runs well too.

Racer does make gorgeous cars, and that's a nice choice right there. They drive as nice as they look. :)

I've got a couple of their cars, well 3 actually, and they all drive very nice. They are no speed demons, but handle well due to their weight. :)

I told you guys awhile back that the higher end Racers and the newer LMM releases "would make your other cars seem more toy like."

Too me the resin bodied releases drive more like 1/24 than 1/32.....which for me, at my age, is a BIG plus.

I do....no Shelf Queens here. So far ( :pray: ) no dents, dings or scratches. The paint, especially on the Racers, seems very durable.

Fortunately the only thing around my track that can really do damage to a car is another car. When that happens it's usually very low speed....so far so good.

I do have shelf queens, for sure. You can tell when looking at some of these cars that certain parts are bound to come off. Those cars stay in the box.

It's worth mentioning that Racers do appear to be more durable than LMM. With LMM, just in the process of tuning the car, you can end up with a handful of parts.
