R/M 65 Mustang GT350 on Pioneer chassis?

Have any of you tried mounting the Revell/Monogram Mustang GT350 on a pioneer mustang chassis? I got as part of a four car deal the Jerry Titus #61 fastback mustang and although I got it running fairly well I think it would do better on a pioneer chassis. A couple of years ago when I was first starting in 1/32 the complete running chassis was available from Pioneer and I also wonder if it is still available that way.

The 65 Stang is pretty skinny. You sure it will fit on top of a Pioneer chassis??

I can tell you that Pioneer wheels and bushings will make those cars a pleasure to run. Slot.it gears even better.

I have seen this done already, ModelerBob, way back when the Pioneer Mustang chassis came out. A RM GT350 will fit, with some fettling of the body posts.

Now we have all our old stock over from China, all the chassis elements are available individually or as a RTR chassis. You can get single wheels or complete axle sub-assemblies as well.

PM me if you need a pointer to availability.

Hi Jules,
How are you? How is the new factory coming? Any update on the Legends cars? Thanks for all you do for the hobby.

Hi ModelerBob!

Much like you I want to convert my Monogram Mustang body over to a scaley T/A chassis or a pioneer Mustang chassis.

As purchased my mustangs stock chassis had a slot it pod cut into it and installed. Problem is it is an inline pod which means I would have to loose the stock mustang interior. The monogram cars were inline front motored cars stock.

I'm thinking just by looking that the rear of the interior tray may need to be modified if a scaley T/A sidewinder set up is used or pioneer set up.

I prefer to go this route to run my monogram '65 mustang fast back in with my other T/A cars eventhough realistically they never ran together in that class.

I'm interested to follow your progress as you move forward with yours.

Take care!

Like others have said, the narrow 65 body will be a tight fit over a sidewinder set up if you are trying to keep the fender/ wheel look of the T/A cars. I suggest that you check with member here named Quickcars (Paul). He had an early Rev Mono Mustang set up that way with a Pioneer chassis a couple of years back. I saw it in one of the For Sale forums at the time so I doubt that he has it now. I almost bought it myself but wound up doing some trading with him for something else. He may still have pictures though. I don't know exactly how it was done but it looked good.

In the Pre-Pioneer days I put one of the blister pack, RM GT 350 bodies on a Scaley Mustang chassis. The biggest mod I ran into was the interior. The sizes between the Scaley and Pioneer are similar; with a little "coal shed engineering" it should work great.

All of these are Pioneer under the skin, Scaley, Carrera, Monogram bodies, some with swapped chassis, some with swapped running gear.

Ah yes, Waay, that's the way to do it. In bulk.

Great bunch of cars Rob. I like the #38 Mustang T/A. :) Have you seen the prices on that particular car? Unreal.

Its amazing. I never know which one is going to become the object of loony people's collector frenzy, so I get two of the ones I like best. This one and a few others in that series are starting to look like I should have bought a boxful. I never have a clue when they come out.

Thanks, guys. It was on a longer post way back on the old site, but I can't remember what I called it.

Yeah, ya just never know which ones will go nuts. Kind of like the "Peter Revson" T/A Mustang. I bought one to run a few years ago, so I'm not concerned about its collector value. :)

I found an all up chassis on E-bay from a seller in England with shipping for about $30. That was after checking in at Smith Scale Raceway and finding they are out of stock. I got the R/M chassis running about as good as possible but it can't keep up with either the Scaley Camaros or the Pioneer Mustangs so the replacement running gear has been ordered.

I mounted the body kit I got from Bruce on a cut up scaley nascar( my hands down favorite chassis to hack on ) all that is needed to switch to sidewinder is to cut out the rear deck of the interior and replace it with one of Harrys trademark playingcards. This setup has NO problem keeping up in a T/A field!
