In another thread, ElSecundo was talking about a new Formula 1 car to come out.

About a year ago, ModlerBob and myself sent off to Topslotntrains.com to order a pair of cars that are not available here in the United States.

These were Scalextric Start Formula 1 cars. I just went to the site and checked the price. Shipped to the states, the total cost is $51.44 for a PAIR of cars.

When we first started to run them on our Scalextric track to be perfectly honest, they were kind of sluggish and gave us no warm nor fuzzy feeling about them.

However when we put them on our new wood track, what a difference. Vive la différence !!!

A set of Paul Gage tires was all that was needed to turn these sluggish cars into some fun cars. Then I did the "Oil and Super Glue" process on the rear bushings and the car is almost silent. What a blast. They are almost perfectly powered for a wooden track.

I just wanted to pass along what we have found if you are looking for some Formula 1 cars that are reasonably priced.

Here they are for a buck or so more in the US, but its the only source I saw here in a 5 minute search. I wonder why the mooks at Scaley have so many completely nutty ideas about us? It seems to come up a lot. Americans don't watch F-1? Are they nuts? Anyway, the Start cars have been a lot of fun for fantasy liveries and for having cars on hand for kids to run at my track. I just finished one today, in fact. Hint: swapping a hot motor in the Ferrari 430 and adding a bit of weight makes for a rocket with blackout windows- a few decals and some paint, and you've a got a lot of indestructible fun for guests.

Funny. Scalextric has not really wowed me in the last couple years...but the START car? Just great cars.

The "Viporsches" are great GT like cars. Run good, tough too.

I always thought those cars you did were just great. They still get track time?

Oh yeah. I may remotor them soon when I replace the tires that have dried some. The remotored Ferrari 430s are a blast. Just for fun, I dropped a Scaleauto red can into one of them, and was amazed at how they still held onto the track. Same with the Prof Motor Hot Rod motor. I think the "Endurance" cars will hold even better so I'm thinking about a very high rpm for them, and some PG tires. Its very free-ing to make a fast car that can't break when it hits a wall at 40mph or so...

Actually it is "Marketing" that is going on.

Most of the manufacturing companies have this department called "Marketing" that puts together the strategic way of putting the products into the area that they feel will sell.

I've been frustrated by this approach for many years. There have been so many cool motorcycles that are already being built, but never imported into this country because some 'expert in Marketing' has said no one here in the U.S. would purchase them. You might have noticed there are more "Cruiser" types of motorcycles here in our country than any other genre. I know I have. Many times while riding one of my "Multisurface Motorcycles" during Bike Week just over in Daytona, I never see more than about 3 or 4 other similar bikes.

Yep, we like the Scalextric "Start" cars - "GT", "Pro" and "Formula 1". Good value.
