Another Unexpected great running car

A little while back I purchased a Scaley Maserati MC12 mostly for it's looks and I didn't expect it to run all that well. It ran OK on my Scaley sport track but I never expected it to handle our new mdf race course. Much to my surprise last week I was testing various cars for their handling on Palm Bay Raceway and when I got to the Maserati I was taken by it's smooth handling of the curves and the speed at which it came out of the corners. It isn't blazing fast on the straights but overall it turns a good lap. Prior to actually running the car I had decided it was too long and too heavy to be a good runner but I will admit I was totally wrong about this car.

Sometimes cars will surprise you. It's just like the Racer resin bodied Fiat 500 Abarth I bought. I knew it looked good, but didn't expect much perfomance wise, but it runs great on wood. The only change I made was going to a set of Slot It. Sauber Mercedes wheels and inserts and a pair of S-2's. :)

While I love the short wheelbase cars that squirt around the track like water bugs, there seems to be something about long wheelbase cars that makes them handle well. Late last year there was a Carrera GT Proxy and a Maserati was the overall winner in that event. That race was held on wood and plastic (Carrera) track. You must have quite a stable now with all of your tuned cars.
