TGIF - Project Time

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Fri Jan 04, 2013 10:24 am

What a nice week, shorter but getting things done around here.

As parts boxes come on from all over, I put the brakes on to get some track work completed.

New fences being installed on the oval. Had a design change in the middle of it because I am reminded just how hard we go at it around here :)

#17 resto is on the bench, close to finish. Red Cheetah too...although it will never get done if I don't mail the inserts

What about you folks?

I really love these 3 days work weeks! Of course that will be coming to a end next week..I placed a huge tire order from Paul Gage this week and just made another big parts order from those SCC guy's. I also have a Carrera hardtop Cobra on the way along with another Cheetah to do a repaint with. They will both be getting lots of tune up parts to try and match my Cobra from Harry. Yeah, I'm sure they wont be that smooth but I will give em' hell trying.

I am also trying a new weathering process on my track, very simple but gives it a more realistic look. Aside from that I really just plan on running the classics this weekend and tuning what I can until parts and tires come in.

Oh and I cant forget the big game on Monday...Roll Tide!

Just received my order from Slot Car Corner.

The controller holders came in, so we're going to put them up before we start our new Friday Night Racing program at our club.

We had held off due to the fact that there was a commercial slot car center less then an hour away. We did not want to impinge on their business. But they have since closed up shop. So now we will race on the more popular Friday night.

Yessir, Lee!! Roll Tide!

I managed to piss off my heart again, so I am taking a few days off, which of course means... Slot cars!! Starting a new car for our group, with a deal that someone will race it for me when I am stuck here being caregiver next door. Its a '72 Torino, yes, DW's car. It should be a screamer since this particular body is very light. Its a "happen so", since its just a Polar Lights repop. I'm waiting for Gene to get the spec motors I ordered to me, but I'll build the whole car while they are in transit. Its a race to see who finishes first.

Whew, short week but worked 14 hour days W-T-F. Regular race at Bullitt Speedway tommorrow so Ill squeeze in:

1/24 Nascar Truck on an H&R adjustable chassis, 70% done. Hope to paint but its cold, she dont like I paint inside!
1/24 Auto Art Porsche 911 repaint, three tone paint scheme, patience, patience
1/24 modified Ford on an H&R adjustable chassis, fun build, create as I go.
Probably move a few projects from one workbench to a shelf and back to act like I made progress on them.

...Doing the Scaleauto Honda HSV-010 review....

It will be my first review ever without mag, I refuse to put in times with magnet when its only good for 80 grams nett downforce...

...You need triple that for a good magnet car set-up. I suppose I can always get another pod later if I want to use magnets with this car.

Two SCX Lancer EVO VIIIs on the bench needing color. Motors have been run in so will work on blueprinting while paint dries. Need to finish them and tune them for forthcoming SCX Proxy. Seems I've scored a job as mechanic for another entrant.

And a Slot.it Ferrari kit to get sorted. These Ferraris keep turning up at my place for some reason. Latest count is 6, of which I've bought 1. I must have words with my fanclub and tell him to change marques.

Doesn't matter what day it is the projects just sit there staring at me saying, "Please complete me". Some get done sooner than others, but they will get done, maybe. :)

There are a couple of white kits that need painting. A Porsche 962 KH and a Pagani Zonda. Start with doing the detail work first while I decide if one or both get finished in Petty colors. So far I've done maintenance on my DR30 after speaking with Dan Ruddock on the phone yesterday. Very helpful information and interesting history on my controller. Also got the high-amp module in my SCP1.1 along with some new alligator clips on my PM. Never stop improving.

Going to be working on the scally trans-ams on HRS chassies. Going to go ahead and try a few more tuning changes on my monograms before sitting them on another chassie. With my computer fixed I'll be able to post pics again.

I'm ALMOST done with my Can-Am cars on the bench. Have to swap to the M/T SL-1 motors, true the PG tires, and then screw the chassis on. Whew! I did these assembly line style: paint all 5 at once, paint all interiors, paint 5 heads, decal all 5, etc. It was actually efficient as the tools and supplies were all out at the same time. It is just time consuming.

I did a little more weathering on the track in some areas, planted a few new trees, and added some temp guardrails in one area I was concerned about a car leaving the track on.

Have to take down all of the Christmas decos today, run to town to deliver a set of wheels I sold on Craigslist (parts money!!!), and will start working on the 2 Javelins I have primed.
