H'mmm, interesting question . . . . "Any fun slotting plans?"
Perhaps I approach slotting in a different manner then most, but I always look for the FUN. Many years ago my focus was on winning. After one race I was a bit upset at myself and my good buddy came over and said, "Let's go and get some coffee on the way home." So we stopped. Then he started busting on me for missing out on what slot racing is supposed to be all about. He shared with me something he had learned. "Go slot car racing with the attitude of having FUN as the center of focus." I gave it a try and man was he right on the money. Been doing it ever since.
Friday, the 8th was a day that started very early for me. My friend, TorqueMutant, drove down from Jacksonville and arrived at my place around 7:45 AM. We had some time to sit and talk slot cars, do some racing on my 1/43rd layout, Martin's-Ville and then head over towards ModlerBob's place, DeBary Glen Raceways. We arrived there around noon and immediately started to have additional FUN. We started on the newly added routed track, Palm Bay. One person would grab a car type out, then everyone reached into their stable and grabbed a similar type of car. Or a car would magically appear for a person to use that did not yet own one. It was just a great day.
I remarked that this was probably my 2nd most FUN time of slot car racing in recent history. The 1st place experience was when the 3 folks that were together yesterday and another 'good old friend' were up in Holly Hill doing the same thing with slot cars, but in the 1/24th realm - "playing with our slot cars". The reason I use the term "Playing" rather then "Racing" just differentiates that you really do not have to race to have that thing called "FUN"!
As the day wore on and those that have to work for a living made their way to the club for our regularly scheduled "race night" we got to racing Group C, Daytona Prototype, GT, Stock Car and Trans-Am. It was fantastic! I didn't hear a discouraging word and the skies were not cloudy all day!
Yep, already had my fun for the weekend. Now it's back to tuning, tweaking, testing and preparing for my next excursion.
Thanks for asking.
