ModlerBob,
I always remember Ken Brown wearing a t-shirt to all the races, "Never Give Up". Perhaps we need to rename our enduro, which I am hoping becomes around more often then every 2 years. I would like to see us schedule the 3rd Saturday of April each year to hold this event. It's still comfortable - we had to close the front door to keep us from freezing this year! But we did not require A/C!
With 11 folks around the track, I personally would say we need to add more time to that between the stints. We have several folks that are quite fast on the racing surface, but their personal mobility is a bit lacking. The added folks make it a bit hard to do rotations.
Overall I had a blast. I do believe the racing was a whole lot tighter than what the lap count indicates. The cars were very evenly matched and as the day wore on, my car started quicker laps. It was bascially out of the box, with some "Harry & Bibbster" tuning techniques incorporated. It was smooth, quiet and ran well the entire race.
I like the format where no work is done on the cars during "Green Light" racing. If you want to clean tires, dress the braids (or as was seen on one car 'braid' as the final stint started), oil the car or any maintenance you wanted to keep up is very good. Funny thing - I noticed that most teams did not oil the motor bearings for the entire race, and there was no drop off from any of the cars. Aside from the wheel that came loose, I don't know of any other car that had any 'endurance' type of failure.
During the 'transition period' from day to night (first turned one of the lights off, then turned the other off and left a small light on, shining on the ceiling) that was some very cool stuff. The teams that were smooth put down lots of laps, those that continued to try for fast laps, put less laps on the counter then the teams that were smooth. I think that added so much more to the event than you can imagine. A whole lot of FUN.
The only question I have for you is this: When is the next one scheduled?
Thanks for making today a FUN day!
