Generally your home owners policy will cover your slot cars like it does the rest of your personal property but you're subject to the deductible which is usually fairly substantial on your home policy. However, a personal articles policy will give your much broader coverage with usually a much lower deductible. The personal articles policy is typically an all perils policy and covers the listed property for just about anything that could happen. Your home policy is usually a named perils policy and will cover your property only if it's damaged by one of the listed perils.

Remember to document all the cars & items with photos & receipts and to store the documentation outside your home, so it doesn't disappear in case of a fire for instance.

Unfortunately, insurance companies will only give you the depreciated value NOT the replacement value UNLESS you have a specific rider. Best bet it to talk to your agent to determine what you want to cover and what you would want if something were to happen.

After building a garage, I had my ins. agent "State Farm" come to see if any adjustment was needed. After that, I had him come to the basement to ask this same ? . He said what was already mentioned, it is covered under personal property loss, and my particular policy is "at cost of replacement" after deductible. He suggested taking photos periodically and store them on a on line photo site. . This prompted me to take photos of everything in the house just in case. But in the larger view of things, if there was a fire or something tragic. The home and necessities are more important. After talking with a friend that lost a entire home, he said you really can`t remember most of your belongings when it come to replacement. So pictures are your best bet for everything.
