Do People Actually Buy Slot Car Track Layout Books?

Postby pgtr » Sun Jan 13, 2013 12:33 pm

Given the ability to share ideas and layouts on the internet, the countless plans published, the free plans included in starter sets and so on... Ya know, those '101 exciting plans' and so on... is there actually a buying public paying for this stuff?

In addition to the great free info out there, I ask in part because I find many so called 'professional' published layouts are very poor IMHO. By professional, I mean those often included in books, starter sets or otherwise sold for a price. Involved hobbyists by and large develop (and share) far superior layouts in my experience.

On the whole those books are intended as entry level "beginners" tracks. A starting point for this grand adventure.

Not sure how many do. So many tracks in the home are built based on both available space and obstructions to that available space. Me, I like the old books on the hobby in general.

One guy sells a HO "flat layout" book with some 150+ tracks or something. For his efforts, sure, it's probably a worthwhile book. But, as there are soooo many layouts to be found online: photobucket, flickr, youtube, HO websites, 1/32 layouts at oldslotracer.com, etc, you kinda have to know what you want before you invest in a book.
