Marty - hope the move goes well! BTW - you should have looked into Colorado instead of NJ - we let you pump your own gas ;)

I plan on making some decals with my track logo for my corner workers, facility vehicles, and flags. Hope it goes easy!

I've been down in Forked River quite a few times when I was at my old job doing work on the Walmart and Home Depot there, Route 9 in the summer is just a tad nuts. At least your close to the beach and the expressway.

Anyway, this week I plan on making the table for my track (Carrera for now), though since I'm watching my 2 year old since I'm off work for the week, I doubt much will get done. We did get some racing in this morning at the track by my house, the owner turned the power down so my kid could do some laps (did a great job too, getting a 2 year old to do something for 10 minutes straight is a miracle). Bought the Iggy Katona car yesterday along with the Pete Hamilton superbird, now just have to find my other cars in storage.

I guess this is pretty major though I have mentioned it before. I am going to dabble in slotless magsteer racing. I have one car here now with another one on the way. I took my first steps last evening to begin the conversion of one of my slot tracks for this kind of racing. It is basically a 1/32 RC car with a tiller with a magnet placed on the front in place of a typical slot car guide. The tiller is connected to an ackerman steering set up. A steel wire is imbedded below the track surface which the mag tiller follows. The cars drive more like slot cars than RC but there is manual steering that will allow the car to change between the two racing lines. Up to 16 cars can run at one time. Here are a couple of videos.

Here is a pic of my first car.

Upgrading to Trakmate for windows. Same track with better timing and more/bigger monitors. Hopefully can get it done over the holidays.

Dangermouse, I really like your proposed layout.
Great use of space.

Now that we have a second track at DeBary Glen we will be very busy getting it up and running. Unfortunately, even though it was carefully handled during the move the copper tape was split at several locations around the track so it will have to be patched or replaced. The layout also needs to have the elevated sections more firmly supported to prevent additional damage to the copper tape. New driver's stations are planned as well as a lap timing system. Hopefully all of the repairs and additions will be in place by springtime.

Harry,

I've been reading and actually comprehending some of the bits and tips you provide to us in your "Tuning Articles".

With our new track at it's location at DeBary Glen Raceways, it's now time to start learning what a car is going to need to make it run properly on this racing surface.

The new track has been primed with a magnitic primer, then painted with the same type of latex paint that was recommended to the builder.

When we traveled to evaluate the track for our club, we took several types of cars with us. One of the cars, my Lola B09/60 worked very well on the new track and I believe with some tuning, it would be outstanding. Rather then take a car apart and make major changes to one that runs on our other racing surface, I chose to leave the Lola alone and purchase the new Audi R18 by Slot.It. After chatting with Maurizio Ferrari and him bringing me up on the specs of the Audi's layout, the dimensions such as wheelbase and guide lead are very similar. So the decision has been made by me to purchase the Audi and make it an LMP project for the new surface.

Now, this might sound familar, but I'll share it any way.

The first thing I did was obtain a M/T-5 Long Can Motor to slip in place of the Slot.It Flat-6 motor. The M/T-5 is a 16,000 rpm motor with 240 grams/cm of torque. It should be a very smoooooth motor that will make that Audi a very controllable car on the wood track. Then I will add a set of 1408-RY tires on the rear, and it should have enough traction to make use of at least a good portion of that motor.

I've also ordered a set of Slot-It 17 x 8 set screw front wheels. Once I get the tires all glued, then trued on my Hudy, I expect that Audi to be one smooth piece on the new track.

Some other projects I have are to take one of my existing cars - it is a "1966 Rod & Custom Gran Prix Car" that was built to the original rules by that organization. The track on the car is 2.75 inches. It has a Ferrari 1512 body on it and I just ordered a set of Paul Gage tires to fit the Pro-Track .500 inch wheels. I think that with some urethane tires on the car, it might just work as is on the new track.

If that does happen, then it's testing time. If the testing turns out as hoped for, then we will be running some 1/24th scale scratchbuilts on the new track as well. I was taking a look at the M/T-1 S can motor and it appears that it is a simple 'bolt-in' for the motor brackets we use for the 1/24th scratchbuilts. If that's the case, we might just create a new category for racing at our club.

Stay tuned to HRW for more news as it happens.

Well I am still doing some scenery work on my routed track "Grey Wolf Raceway". Also updating the timing system with split rail deadstrip. Had to accept the fact that the man-cave is just to small to host club race events.

So plans are made upto route another track for the garage this spring. This track will be based on my current track, Only it will be a 8'X 16' 4 lane. Grey Wolf is 8'X 12'. I will still use PCLapcounter timimg system with fuel. It will also roll down from the garage wall. On this track the scenery will be based on a mid 70s Saturday night short track, grandstands, small pits and other stuff you see on your local track. Looking forward to this build.

On the slot car front, I have gotton tired of trying to make my monogram stockers and scally trans ams run the way I like. So I have started to put them all on slot-it HRS chassies. Doing them up in sets of 4, Saturday night short track style for my new track. Pics will follow shortly.
