Nice work Lloyd. Really push this scale to its limits. What are you using for steering blocks on the front suspension?

Like you I am a modeler first, having and N scale train Layout and a whole bunch of RC armor. I am finding a wealth of suppliers in 1/43 scale . You just need to find them through the static modeling crowd. You and I are both using the same supplier for these aluminium turned rims and he has a whole bunch of other detail parts. He supplies a Ferrari 250 GTO detail kit that includes grills, fuel caps, mirror and glass trim. So anyone peeking in at 1/43 scale, should be aware that detail parts etc are plentiful because of how big the 1/43 static crowd is. So the opposite of what you might think is true. Lots of stuff available for scratch builders.

Anyway , cars look great. Have you got one going to Peters proxy race?

Also, that is interesting about sourcing items from the static model crowd for 1/43 - wonder if some of the 1/35 military static stuff couldn't also be applied similarly to the 1/32 end of things... Hmmmm... :think:

Do you have any links to wheels / inserts most of the stuff I've been finding has been rather expensive... Actually just a good link share would really be beneficial in this forum.

I have just checked the offers of this guy at EBAY. Well, interesting. But one must be careful.

A Ferrari 512, a LOLA T-70 with 19 mm dia. tyres in 1/43 (!) seems more than surrealistic. More than 800 mm... might be SUV´s, but not the race cars.
Some of the PE parts are interesting.

When I order from him I check the rims size more then the specific car. He has a good selection of all diameters. Good product at a fair price there is no reason not to get scale size wheels for you builds. I ordered some steering wheels. I also see he has photo etched hood latches.

What can I say. I am new to this scale and am finding out what is available. I order, I buy I build, and then I find out about what more is available. Each time finding more and more things to make my builds more scale like. I needed a couple of cars for the Proxy race so I built them and stuck on the wheels I had. May not be very prototypical for a Cayman. Oh well. Each Car I build I learn more and more what is available.

The wheel size is obvious, but I think they look good, and they are truly scratchbuilt. At the time I built them I really wished I had a different set of rims available, but I didn't. Oh well they are not painted in any prototypical colors so how can they be wrong<grin> They are my cars and I put the wheels on I had so I could get them to the proxy race.

As far as the detail parts and rims available, I am not going to blame the supplier for the size of rims I put on my cars. He clearly states what the Outside wheel diameter is, it is up to me and any other scratch builder to figure out what he needs.

If you chose not to buy from him over some perceived lack of scale fidelity , I guess that is you choice. A turned aluminum rim is a turned aluminum rim. A set of calipers and a knowledge of the correct wheel size is all you need to pick the right ones regardless of what they are labeled. He sells dozens of different sized aluminum rims CW rubber. Anyone should be able to find the size they are looking for.

Bottom line is a build things because I enjoy building things I have scratch built 3 other cars since I did those.

Cool I've seen some of his products and wondered. The Rd ones confuse me on which ones are right for my application (other than the artin sized lol) I remember doing 124 as a teen but that wasn't really for scale, it was just for racing, and it was easy to get, just a one stop shop at the track. Gears tires rims motors... With the exception of drag racing which I picked up a few bodies from my old bone yard..... But anyways, as I said got a few die casts I'm itching to try my hand at making into slots, Ty for the info :-D
