Letting the paint dry on my 1/32 Ferrari 312P Coupe body, so opportune time to start on the next car on the build list, a BRE Datsun 240Z.

Had this 1/25 Revell re-issue for a couple of years so pulled out the bits and instruction list to begin conversion. Thought it'd be a one-piece body, but not so. Starting to get it solid by gluing the front valence, hood and headlight covers to the main body.

Cut down the wheel inserts to fit CB Design 17 x 8 inserts wheels.

Want to include as much of the kit's interior so building a hybrid sidewinder chassis using a Slot It motor pod.

A favorite since I was a kid, (I mean younger)
Are you going white/red or white/lime?
Awesome!

@ FC47 - Gotta do the iconic BRE white/red.

Some progress.

- filed and sanded down body's front side markers, emblems and windshield wipers
- cast cut down wheel inserts for CB Design 17 x 8 insert rims
- assembled .055" piano wire and .064" brass strips for a hybrid chassis using a Slot It sidewinder motor pod. Trying out a Samson guide post for the first time.

Nice! I've both BRE kits (510 & 240) languishing so this might be my inspiration to finally do something with them.

Good progress.

Basic hybrid chassis assembled. Ended up using a 3DRon sidewinder S can printed motor pod with zero axle offset. Trued PG 210805 tires, the fronts slightly smaller in diameter than the rear.

Mocked the body on.

Wheels/tires need to be tucked in a bit more.

Trimmed a kit's wheel too much for an insert so ended up trimming and casting another wheel for the proper look.

Coming along well.

Chassis's assembled and running.

Motorized with a Slot It 21.5K orange bell S can with Slot It 11t pinion and 34t crown gears.

Drives fine but we'll see how it does with a mounted body. That's next.

Mocked the body on top of the side pans.

I like the stance. Think I'll secure the body with a single front body post and single side mounts near the rear wheels.

Body's mounted with single posts at the front and both sides.

Will need more reinforcing so JB Kwik 5 minute epoxy will come in handy.

Close on tire/wheel arch rubbing but worked out with some wheel arch grinding and filing.

Trying to integrate the kit's interior compartment details. First off, tackling the rear deck, strut detail and rollbar.

After much Dremel sawing and grinding, got to attach the remaining platform onto the rear of 3DRon motor pod.

The mock up works. Doesn't interfere with the gears and wheels and the body mounting posts position cleanly onto the chassis.

Onto painting the platform, driver figure, dash and steering column and wheel.

Modeling detail parts painted.

Image

Driver figure's a Fujimi as the Revell kit doesn't provide one.

Onto the main body.

Tamiya white primer's on. Wheel inserts painted Tamiya Lin Gray and glued in.

Going well.
