I had been wanting to add another series on my big track, and thought, why not build some Trans Am rides? Seems there are plenty of model kits to get bodies from, and a spec chassis with mild motor would suit my twisty road course just fine. So, I order up a couple of Monogram model kits, a 70 Boss 302 Mustang, and a 69 Z28. My idea is to build recognizable cars, that are not necessarily the always seen top 5 or so. Using the colors of the big boys, and sponsors of lessor known Livery's. Here are the first two for now. I have a couple of more kits on the way. I am using the H&R HCO8 chassis for these. the chassis comes with a 18k Hawk motor, and silicone rear tires, and foam fronts. I swap the wheels front to rear, and mount up a set of my urethanes. Other than setting guide height, and basic tuning, they are as close to RTR as you can get. I figured this would allow some of my few part time racers a way to have their own car, without me building all of them. Are they as good as the BRM offerings? probably not, but fun none the less, and at half the cost! Anyway, here are some pics of my cars so far.

Wow! They look great love the tires and wheels looks like they have full interior? Where do you get the 1/24 full driver figure? I need a few

Thanks Fitzy, they are full driver figures. I cast my own from the old monogram driver,and use the cox style head. They are a little work to get just right, but workable.

Lol. Thats actually a hurst shifter with reverse lockout. Came from another kit, and had to use it.

I second the proxy idea! (racing and a concours) Building a model kit into a slot car is the one thing I miss about slot drag racing.

Curious how these run with an 18K motor. Seems underpowered on first look considering Slot.It 1/32 cars have 21K motors. Could you compare them to a Carrera or BRM?

Where do you get the Goodyear tire decals?

When we first started running 1/24 scale at Bullitt in Louisville we were using the H&R chassis with the 18K H&R Hawk motor. I think we ran this motor for 2 or 3 years. Now all classes and the tracks in TN which copied the Bullitt rules all run the MT5. Both motors will pull the heavy bodies with ease.I have cars with total weight between 270-312 grams. Now I have seen other racers with cars as light as 230 grams. Running on a Blue King the cars can easily run 8.8 secs in the LMP/GTP class and under 10 secs in all Nascar and Nascar Truck classes. 9.35-9.75 is the breakout for most classes at most tracks in KY and TN.

I would think on home tracks that you wouldn't have to put so much weight in them.
