Cast a fat flared Ford Escort Mk. 1 body, so preparing an adjust-o-wheelbase chassis metal chassis like many of my small car builds.



Component list consists of:

- .064" brass guide tongue
- 5/32" brass guide post tube
- 1/8" brass front axle tube
- 3/32" brass square front axle supports
- 3/32" brass square tube main rails
- .064" brass front cross member
- .064" brass rear cross member
- .064" brass side pans
- .062" piano wire front assembly sliders

Will be motorized with a slimline FF050 motor held in a 3d printed motor pod.

Good progress.



Trimmed the body down to a light 9 grams. Assembled the chassis and attached the slimline motor pod. Using a Sloting Plus guide, my go-to one these days.

Should be rolling by the weekend.

Chassis's rolling with Slot It 15 x 8 plastic rims/Slot It rubber tires at the front and Slot It F1 rims/home made urethanes in the back.

Final stance will be close to this. I like the tucked-in tire, low stance look.

I have always been a fan of the Lucky Strike livery and loved this Escort since the first time I saw it. I am looking forward to getting the car and finishing the painting and decals, hopefully I can do Dan's amazing work justice!

Hi Chris,

Working on your Scalextric Escort body is the catalyst for this build, so thanks for that. I hadn't done flares with epoxy in a long while. They turned out so well that I had to make a mold from your "master". Your Escort has solid epoxy flares so they'll have to be hollowed out with a cone sanding bit to get a similar tucked-in tire stance. Frankly, if I never build flares again, I won't miss it!

In the meantime, got this build's chassis drivetrain (Scalextric Sport FF050, 25K, BWA 9t pinion, Slot It 28t crown) installed...



...and added sidepans with the body sills trimmed for clearance.



It's tight but I managed just a tiny bit of clearance at all the wheel arches so as not have tire rub.





Runs well on my test track, but have to give it a better workout on Luf's Big Targa track.

Paint-wise, I'm thinking a Camel Yellow finish with the appropriate decals would look good.

Sprayed on Tamiya white primer and installed Slot It Jaguar XJR9 wheel inserts.

Sprayed on Tamiya TS-47 Chrome Yellow which looks more like a Camel Yellow tone. Much darker than the lighter yellow represented on the can's cap.

I knew that this was the tone I'd get this time after painting my 1/25 Sunbeam Tiger build. Wonder if someone at the factory put on the wrong cap?

The decalling and paint detail seemed to take forever, but got it done.











Installing vac formed windscreens and interior driver tray left to do.

Tamiya semi gloss clear applied but did crinkle a few decals. Vac formed windscreens were off a bit but resulting coverage works good enough. Interior tray mounted on top of motor.









Goes well on the little test track but tonight's run on Luf's Big Targa will reveal all.
