Fly Porsche 908-3 - hybrid re-chassis

Getting comfortable building hybrid chassis now with a formula that seems to be working.

Next up is a Fly Porsche 908-3, the first Fly brand car I bought so many years ago.

An interesting feature is the 3D printed sidewinder motor pod done by Ron, our club's 3D designer and printing whiz. He's a great modeler too. You should see his paint jobs!

We don't run magnet so eliminating the magnet mounting pockets found in most manufacturer's pods is fine with me. This is my first use of this pod, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out.

I've been converting rtr bodies more lately, so taking a break from the modeling is welcome. It always takes way longer for me to do the painting and detailing than building a chassis.

Moving forward.

Dan.....thanks for the pod photo....Ron has done great work!
Is it just for single flange slide in bearings?

Ron's pod was initially designed for Slot It spherical bushings but I've changed it to accept Parma oilites.

Basic chassis's constructed. Motor's quite loose in the pod so secured with silicone and awaiting cure before a run.

Will mount body next.

Added .032" sidepans.

Mounted body, single post at the front and rear.

Slot It rims are bulging slightly out at the rear. No more adjustment so will look for some CB Design rims without the hub.

Modeling to go and then it's finished.

Modified and installed interior tray, driver figure and tailights, Wheel inserts placed and paint detailed too.

Runs better than the stock, so all is good.

your series of hybrid chassis looks really good.
This is very interesting. I assume that you do not adjust much the pod float once the body is on: could you have put the screws the other way around?

Most my recent hybrid chassis builds using a Slot It motor pod have been attached with a nut and bolt for adjustable play.

This is my first time using this 3D printed motor pod designed and printed by a fellow club member. I just wanted to see how it would perform with a solid mounting. The pod's mounting holes being so close to the edge didn't help with my usual method.

The next version will have a number of changes, so stay tuned.
