Team Slot Ford Capri Mk. 1

The early Team Slot cars with their hand painted and crudely finished resin bodies seemed charming but their ill-fitting chassis and rough drivetrain dulled the overall appeal.

So, I've had this Ford Capri Mk. 1 for ages and am going to give it an update.

The new chassis build's waiting for a Devised Design motor pod in the post so body work can proceed with weight reduction from its whopping 37 grams. Weather's still good, so the Dremel grinding will begin.

Took a couple of dremel grinding sessions outdoors and got the body down to 21g. A little too enthusiastic in a few spots but epoxy repair did the trick.

Chassis's next. Just waiting for parts.

I've been looking into doing a Capri, so I'll follow this closely.

Rather than wait for incoming chassis parts in the mail, grabbed the BWA chassis from my Ninco Mercedes CLK GTR.

Turned out my modified stock chassis CLK GTRs ran better than the brass retrofit. Oh well.

Narrowed the front and rear tracks and test fitted the body.

Stance is good with Slot It Porsche 956 wheel inserts fitted to the 15 x 8 rims, front and rear. Won't be that low in the end but close.

Final body mounting next.

Body's mounted.

NSR boxer motor was too torquey so made a switch. Only motor in the parts bin with can end mounting screw holes was a Cartrix 30K S can. Softened it a bit with a 9t pinion and 27t crown gears via SCX Pro. Change dropped the overall weight 10g down to 94g.

Would like to try a Slot It 20K yellow flat can like on my Scalextric Camaro retrofit.

Done.

Got the vacuum-formed windows and interior driver tray secured. Crude but an acceptable representation.

Wasn't happy with the rear mounting post only partially supported by the body so fabricated an adaptor plate to re-locate post further back.

More secure now.

Runs on par with my Scalextric Camaro retrofit with a good planted feel.
