The quirky Power Slot Lola T298's been one of my favorite cars and I've got a number of them. Run them pretty much stock with a rear rim and tire change but this particular one's quite pokey. So, why not upgrade with a brass chassis?



Have built a number of Lolas lately, so here goes another.

Dan - looks great. Clean build as always!

Chassis's done, my usual simple adjustable wheel base brass one using the Devised Designs super slimline motor pod.



Parts list includes:

main rails - 3/32" square brass
rail outriggers - 1/16" piano wire
side pans - .064" x 1/2" brass strips
guide flag and cross braces - .064" brass strips
front axle tube - 1/8" square brass
front axle supports - 3/32" square brass
guide flag tube - 5/32" round brass

front wheels/tires - original Power Slot
rear wheels/tires - Slot It 15 x 8, Paul Gage
motor - Scalextric Sport FF050 slimline, 20K
pinion/crown - Slot It 9t/SCX Pro 27t
guide flag - Scale Auto, 7mm, universal

Runs with nice planted feel and good speed.

Used the stock mounting posts by sleeving and re-positioning the original ones.

Stance is good.







Will try to save as much of the original interior tray.

I think the body dimensions of the T298 lends itself to being quick but the original chassis is just not quite good enough: this should so the trick. Mine (stock chassis, original wheels) is just outside of the top half of lap times of all my cars on Luf's Targa. Your incarnation looks like it is going to be a very quick car. Based on what you can do with small, narrow, more upright cars, I have VERY high expectations of this one. Curious to see how it goes.

Managed to save most of the original driver tray.



Just needed to slice about 3/8" at the bottom to clear the slimline motor.

Performance-wise among my four Lola builds with identical chassis, motors and gear ratios, it's comes in third with a fastest lap of 5.810 seconds on my twisty wood track layout.

Fourth is my Lola T290 at 5.826...



...second is my first Lola T160 build at 5.731...



...and fastest is my second Lola T190 at a convincing 5.575.



A sub 6 second lap is a decent one on my layout.

Think I'll get one of those SRC T600 bodies to expand the Lola fleet.
