Maverick Proxy Race #9 **RESULTS on page 2**

I got back from vacation and the box of Maverick goodness arrived in short order..

It was especially cool to have them and the Porsches here at the same time..
Very fun to compare builds, and laptimes between the classes..

My iPhone is on the fritz so Ustream was not available today for qualifying runs, but they did take place.

A couple brief observations..

Great chassis on Rustys car.. I need to try and make something that cool.
His car, Harrys car and ShotgunDaves car all handled well and were the easiest to drive.
Now that I think about it, Todds was too.. Great color too that's better in person than pics.

Lees car and my car were very similar.. I could knock off a pretty fast lap in a group of 5 laps,
but not lap after lap after lap.. Rustys car was amazingly consistent. (as was Harrys, just 2 tenths off)

Daves RMS resins entry, while beautiful, was a handful to keep on the track.. Can you say roll over?
Dave, the floppy front axle is the culprit here.. if that was stiffened up so the
wheels just touched the track, I know it would be way better.

While not the slowest in the field, Phils car was tough as well.. It wants to hop and roll
in to corners if I carry too much speed, but it rockets out of corners.. better than any other.

Jeremys car should have been faster.. however his rear tires are TOAST.
This is the way I got the car:

Contact patch is about half what it shoud be.. had a hard time holding the corners.
Obviously it's been rubbing like crazy, but I see no obstructions now.

Here are the Qualifying results for round 9

Hoping to get the races in next Saturday.. will confirm in the next couple days.
Lots going on at home and work but I was glad to get these runs in today..

Yeah Bibbsters car was like that when I got it. Had been rubbing the interior tray. Tried to true tires but couldn't take much off or the chassis would be dragging.

I was just comparing times of the Mavs and Nugens from the same builders. Amazingly close. Can't wait till the Nugens get here for some data comparison.

May I ask a question?

Is it against anything in the rules to clean up those tires for Jeremy? Or if they are beyond sanding, I'll reimburse you for a new set if needed?

Just know the car is better than that and since this is supposed to be for the fun of it, it would not bother me in the least. And if you do and he beats me...so be it.

That's fine with me also. This issue was brought to Jeremy when the car arrived here. And should have been addressed before it got here. I didn't have tires to replace with and had told him that. He never offered to send any. Or it would have been fixed.

I already put a new set on guys. Planned on running his qual over. Sanding was out of the question as the car was already scraping in a couple spots.

Just re-ran Jeremys car with a new set of skins..

Truth be told, they are not quite as wide as the tires that came off.. but they are brand new.
They are PG tires, just a couple mm narrower..

Easily put Jeremy right in to the top 5.. I ran 5 laps, cleaned tires and ran 5 more..
Lap 10 was the fastest.. Pretty easy to drive now ~

His car now screams through the esses with very little drama.. (unlike Daves car for instance)

Kev - Great to see you had a set there you could put on and that it brought it's handling back into what it had been previously. :)
:text-bravo:

Last night after dinner my wife was crafting with the kids so I took the opportunity
to head downstairs and run the Mavericks for thier Round 9 proxy race.

They were run in reverse order of qualifying.. each car for 4 minutes in the red lane.
Tires were cleaned, TrackMate set up for 4 minutes, and laps were recorded along
with partial lap distance at the finish, and fast lap times.
If there was an off, the 'red button' was pressed asap which freezes time (no built
in penalty) and the car was reset where it went off and the race was restarted
where it left off. Here are the results and notes on the race..

Image

**note: Jeremys car must be cursed LOL.. In pre-race warmup laps I noticed the new tires
I installed were rubbing in the same pattern the old ones were.. I glued the interior tray up
and in as far as I could, and all seemed well. Then in the actual race, the car started chattering
badly at the end of lap 2 and continued throughout the run. I took a look when it had an off,
and the tires didn't seem to be rubbing, but the car became quite a handful to drive.. straightline
speed was good but it was bad in the corners... Close examination after the race revealed a solder
break on the chassis where the rear axle mounts on the drivers side. If you want me to, I'll put a dab
of super glue there to hold it together for the next round. Don't want to attempt solder as I've never
done it before on a chassis and I'd hate to melt something wrong and have it fall apart in my hands LOL..

It was fun to see all the different builds and take note of how the brass chassied cars were put together..
I really need to learn that skill.. Most of them ran so great and smooth.. loved driving them!

I'm getting a new laptop at work this week with a webcam so I hope to have Ustream again for the Porsche race..
I know it's more fun to run the race live with everyone being able to see and comment with each other..
Sorry I couldn't make it happen for these cars~
