I use the 3M tape/glue but have heard others using something down here by Selleys called "No more nails."

Make sure you wash the braid before glueing. I used a GP thinners but others use acetone or some similar solvent.

The old method of sticking down braid with contact cement was a pain in the neck and it was also really at least a two man job. Most of the Shoreline Model Raceways tracks were originally done with or converted from copper tape to braid using the 3M tape method. Any sort of adhesive that you have to squeeze out of a tube is going to be more work than using the 3M tape. If you use an adhesive it will be more difficult to get a consistent braid height.

I've done it with contact cement for countertop laminates, hot glue followed by an ice cold roller, and double sided tape from Uline, and the tape is by far the best, quickest and easiest to learn method- trust me!

Don't forget, you still have to roll it, but making a little roller is simple to do, and there's probably a tool for something else out there that will do fine.

okay thanks guys if I remember right 22 years ago I used a wallpaper roller! :o :lol:

If it was a seam roller tool, it wouldn't take much to convert it. If you have a lathe, you could spin that roller perfectly in 20 minutes start to finish. Makes me want to get a seam roller and try it!

But quite honestly, I got better results just with a block of wood originally used for burnishing the masking tape when I was painting:
