Mine is a bit less desertic, even if I modified it since I took the pics to make it less green. I still have to make buildings and add figures to populate it ! But it's a long time project, like a model railroad. The oval track is diferent, more focused on "club" racing.

You'll see on the ho track (once I'll move it down from the attic, probably next week) that the landscape is very similar to your 1st photo ! I still have a lot to do on scenery, but the natural aspect is done. Like a model railroad, it will keep me busy for years, probably, since I have other hobbies (wargaming and miniature figures, electric football, and retro computing).

Anyway, tommorow I'll finish the "upside" of the oval, making the straw balls, installing the XLR plugs, fuel consumption leds, leader leds, and tommorow night I'll make some custom stickers for the driver stations too.

that's great. I was in California on work travel back in those days, discovered that Riverside was near me, and went over there on Saturday- unfortunately, the week after the last race, and the place had just closed!
I did walk around it a little (although there were a Lot of fences), but like a dummy I didn't have my camera with me.
unfortunately, it wasn't very green at the time- you know how the desertlike areas are, coming and going.

I just finished the driver stations. It was long and boring, I hate electronics. Each driver station has 1 XLR plug, 1 "leader" led (matching the lane color, it will blink when you're the race leader), and 1 "out of fuel" orange led (will blink when your car goes low on fuel; if fuel is empty, the lane power is shut down).

There is also 2 track call push buttons (one for 2 drivers) to stop the track power..

Wiring these leds is very boring. You have to add a resistor, than some shrink tube, then prepare the wires, etc, etc... Boring. But hopefully, it will bring interesting advanced features, under Arduino card and Race coordinator control.

I still have to add some stickers on the driver station boards (to explain the led functions, and also add a lane number for each driver station), make these damned straw balls and finish painting the light bridge. Then, the track will be completed, except the wiring.

Each componant of the track will be wired to screw terminals. This way, it will be easier to maintain and change faulty parts if needed.

D-man,What system are you using that has all the low fuel and so on? I would love to add that feature to my road course

For the hardware, I'll use a arduino usb I/O board, with a 8 relays board wired on to control each lane power and a few other things.

there's a photo of the ho track on the last page.

I finished the track, with straw balls, paint and all. I treated the rails with dexron atf oil, tommorow I'll finish with cleaning.

I should install the HO track before the end of the week !
