I finished the painting. 3 coats. I removed the tape on the rails. I will have to fix a few defects.

The result is OK, not speaking of the problem I already spotted. I'm a bit concerned about the sturdiness of the paint, for now it's very fragile (you can scratch it with your nail, what I did removing the tape).

We'll see.

A few thoughts:

1) First: You did a great job. The entire thing is something to be proud of. I would be thrilled to race on that track!
2) The arrows - well, nothing you can do. I've had Carrera cars do that during repaints when I was unable to get the tampo off.

The easy solution is to leave the gap alone now. It won't even bother the cars. I would "weather" the track a little...some skid marks, and just making the track a little grimy with a few shades of gray or black and a light brush method should do the trick. You can even make areas that look like the pavement was redone. That might hide the arrows a little more.

Either way - the track with your borders and walls with the fences are simply awesome!

Concerning the gap filling, I googled some real nascar and short track tracks photos, the real things also have bad pavements and cracks, after all ! The gap, even if it is not really good looking (I missed the "routed track" effect for sure), is still relatively smooth and flat (the hollow is, at worst places less than one or 2 of millimeters deep), so the lane2 cars should be able to slide without problems.

Concerning the weathering on the track, I'm also thinking about this. I already planned to add some marking (yellow inner stripes, white outer stripes, victory lane), and tommorow (once I'll clean the few rails paints remains wich went under the tape) I will also paint the outter and inner border brown, to glue some modelling flock, wich should improve the overall look of the track.

Concerning the "embossed" track prints, hopefully it's only visible under some view angle. I'm not mad about it (I'm only angry against me for the gap filling mistake I made).

i guess i have to ask, what happens when the track expands and contracts, if you fill all the gaps? i used to have plastic carrera (went to wood) and now have afx ho too, and i have to pretty much float the whole thing and make expansion joints between the inners and outers for that reason so they stay together in the corners.
very nice though. i still congratulate you on your impressive efforts.
oh btw, since your fences end right at the corner, i'd be the first one to put a car on the floor!

Hi,

I'm not concerned about track extraction or expansion ;) I already did this style of filling on my 2 first tracks (1/43 and HO track) and I never had any problems or cracks or whatever.

The 1/43 track was completly filled (outter, inner, and even between the tracks pieces), giving the track a "routed" effect, and it worked pretty well for years in my gameroom.

The HO track is (for now) in my not uninsulated attic (about -5°C winter and 40°C on summer) and there is something like just 2 minor cracks on the tracks ;)

Concerning the corners, don't worry, as I explained, I'll add extra ninco fences at the ends of the walls, and also fences inside the turns and tires walls.

the modelling flock is done, I still have to add the extra fences tommorow. I will not make tires walls (too "F1" for my taste) and will make a few straw bales instead.

I' ve got a few tires walls on my ho track, they are good (even if probably not accurate) for the track thematic (Inspired by Riverside road course circuit), but I thought they would not be adapted for the oval.
