Carrera digital chip in other brand cars???

Has anyone tried this?? I would think that due to the fact that all cars run on a DC system and motors are pretty compatible to different brands, so in theory you should be able to with no big issues. I have just purchased a wireless controllers, and a black box for my Carrera track, and wanna be able to convert my analog cars while using digital, and have sold all my Carrera cars and run Scalectrix, Slot It, Fly and MMRC cars. So has anyone done something like this??? Any help would be appreciated, I'm pretty good with DC electric principles as I build electric coil type tattoo machines from scratch, so I need advice before trial and error... Thanks much...

Well that link that Bruce posted should alleviate any doubt- other brands can be chipped with D123 boards and run just fine.

The July/August 2012 issue of Model Car Racing (#64) has a step by step guide of fitting a D132 chip inside of a Monogram vintage NASCAR.

I have a Fly Lola T70 Mk3B that I've chipped. It's a newer inline model. I actually removed the stock Fly motor and replaced it with a Carrera. That took some chassis grinding to fit in there. The interior also had to be shaved a bit to accommodate the motor placement, but there was plenty of room in there for the chip.

A fellow whom I race with has put one inside of a Scalextric Aston Martin DBR9. It ran very well against our Carrera cars, and the sidewinder motor just sounded like a really cool contrast against all of the inlines. The downside was that the stock power supply kept overloading with 5 Carreras plus that Scaley on the track. I don't know the details as to amp draw variances between the two brands of motors.

Yep, we do it all the time with any brand of car. The chips hold up to the hotter motors like some of the Slot.it and NSR types. As you add hotter motors, you may need to switch to a higher amp power supply.

On the other hand, Carrera cars are a great value as is. It's easy to spend $100 on another car after chipping. In our "racing group" we have an open class where we run all types.

Most other brand cars can be chipped for D132, some are very easy and some are a major under taking.
You will need to cut down interiors of some cars for room for the chip. Front motored cars are the hardest to do, because of the lack of room for the chip. Another problem I have run in to is that sidewinder cars like Scalectrixs, Pioneers and Revell nascars, the gears will hit the Carrera rails in the track at lane changers, making a little grinding noise.
Chipping the different cars can be a hobby in it's self and are fun projects to do. Here is one of the latest cars I chipped.
