Good day
Iam trying to talk a friend into the slotcar hobby.
He is swaying towards digital, maybe, and has asked me about putting faster
and higher rpm motors in the cars.
Will the circuit board take the amp draw required ??
Will the stock power supply handle and deliver the amps ??
He is thinking Carrera.
I run analog and could not answer his questions.

If you put a more powerful motor in a digital car you will risk burning out the chip, those are only designed to handle stock motors. If you go with the Scalextric system you can use a Slot.it chip that can handle more power. If you go with the power supply that is made to run six cars you should have enough power to run hotter motors. With more power the cars will become more difficult to drive and the cars will be more likely to be damaged in a crash. Rather than going with more power you might try backing off on the traction magnets so the cars are not quite so stuck down, they will actually seem to be faster and they will pick up a little more top speed due to reduced drag.

I too though the modifications may be too hard on the circuits.
So does that not limit the amount of tinkering a guy can do to a digital set up ??
Not that I want all my cars to be rockets, BUT I do have a good selection of
different cars and set ups,from a no mag ,stock motor to a 75 ft @ 5.52
second gray primer 69 Camaro with a 40 th rpm red can motor,lowered,floating,lightened,tires and loaded with magnets.
My point is that these mods were a totally enjoyable and a interesting part of
this hobby with the only limit being ----MONEY !!!
Just trying to steer a potential slotter to a enjoyable hobby !!

Good grief. How big is the track that you run a 40k rpm motor on? Or what voltage on a regular sized track? The only way I can see that being manageable is to have it so sucked down with magnets that it actually slows the revs on the motor. And if that is the case then when she lets go she's bound to finish up imbedded in the wall!

A dear friend of mine is an old school racer from the dawn of the slotting era. He even drove for one of the pro-teams in the UK for a time. When he first got back into racing on his home Carrera track he was changing every motor up for around 30-35k and chasing more go because that is what he was used to doing. So, I sent him a 40k NSR motor as a present. I also sent him a Ninco NC2 powered XK120 that I rebuilt and tuned for him. It didn't completely cure him of his love for 30k motors, but he has conceded that the lower powered ones can be fun.

The track is a 2 lane 75ft scalley and scx mix road course,we run at 15 vdc.
I only have a few of my cars set up like this because it is very hard to drive it to
it,s full potential and takes maximum concentration to get any where near the
5.52 record. If the car is used on race night we never drive it until the end
because the rest of the cars seem slow afterward.
Point is it's all enjoyable
