SSD power supply question.

Postby patwa » Sun Feb 16, 2014 6:26 am

Hello Folks,
Is anyone using an adjustable power supply on an SSD system ? I have seen cables available for this set up.
If so,how much voltage/amps can you run through the system before there are issues?
The standard system is 15V and 4A I believe, and I run two standard wall mount type SSD power supplies as per the book instruction.
When a car is deslotted there is an increase in performance in the other cars when running 6 cars at a time.
Has anyone played with this?
Electricity is not my thing.
If I could run an aftermarket power supply with 6 or 7 amps available I believe this would fix my problem.
Am I on the right path?
Is this OK without frying my power base?
Help please.

Hi,
I would contact rikorocket@tesco.net
He will be able to answer those technical type questions before you "fry" something!
He also makes the after market cable

Thanks for the link Oceanview!

Patwa, Two 4A power supplies should be more than sufficient. So either you have a faulty one or there is a problem on your track.
Try using one power supply at a time, they should easily drive 4 cars individually, if one doesn't then that's your problem

If that works out fine then the next thing is power drops around your circuit. Use some of the Scalextric booster cables to link from beside your powerbase to the furthest part of the track.

If that doesn't work then the powerbase is faulty, take it back to your dealer

and I should add that using a more powerful power supply will actually give you no more power to the track as the electronics limits the power. The standard Scalextric units although rated at 4 Amps put out more like 5.5Amps before the voltage starts to decay

RikoRocket,
I have a Pyramid Power supply going into a Standard Sport Power base. I just fried my third base. Allen Smith of 132slotcars stated on his website that the base could be used with either an AC or DC power supply. If this is so way do I keep blowing the power track? Since this base is no longer supplied by Scaley they are getting harder to find. Guess that means driver stations sooner than later.
