Carrera Pace Car Question

I've been reading up on the various functions associated with Carrera digital in advance of my purchase of a set, and one aspect has me a bit stumped.

I like the idea of setting a pace car. This seems like a nice way to handle cautions and certainly adds to the realism. But what I don't understand is what happens to the car when not in use. I know that it leaves from and returns to the pitlane, but does that mean that the car must remain in the pitlane during the race, or can you remove it and put it back in there when needed?

If it needs to stay in the pitlane, doesn't that effectively take away the refueling option of the user controlled cars? :think:

I think the pace car sounds really neat, but not at the expense of the virtual fuel option, which itself is a big reason why I'm switching to digital.

Any and all insight from folks familiar with this system would be appreciated. Thanks!

The pace car is pretty cool. The easiest way is to have two pits and program the second for the pace car.
