I'm kind of surprised that digital is this dead. No posts since Christmas. Are people giving up on it or is there just no new info to talk about?

I'm too busy racing five other cars, don't have time to whine about mold release lines, improper decal placement, wrong knock off used etc. ;)

I'm trying to think of something to complain about....... oh yeah, that rookie brake checked me at the end of the strait. Thats ok, I got nerfed him the next chance I had.

HRW is a great place, but I don't think the digital crowd frequents here. I run mostly digital. I come to HRW to learn as much about the hobby as I can, but if I want to specifically discuss digital racing I usually try a different board.

Well, it COULD be a better place for digital if folks started to share tips, tuning...etc.

It is here, and wide open for anyone to "take charge". It will be what you folks make it.

I think Leadfinger has it nailed. I have over 1000 slot cars and miles of track dating back to the 60's to present. I don't have the money or the space to invest in digital so I haven't gotten into that aspect of the hobby. But I do like several of the Carrera cars that can run on eather analog or digital with a flip of a switch. And I would like to run on a digital track sometime, but it's not high on my bucket list. I know of only one person that has a digital track, and he races with one of the clubs I race with, but with analog cars because none of the clubs tracks are set up as digital and know one else seems to be interested in digital. So, ya, digital is kind of dead at least with the crowd I run with anyways. AC slot cars have been around for 40 years. and you can run up to 4 cars on a 2 lane track with a simple diode placed in your car. And there are a few clubs that race those. But those haven't ever became that popular eather. And I see that now we all so have slotless "slot cars" that are basicly small RC cars guided by a magnetic wire placed under the track serface. All look fun and interesting, but one cannot do it all.

MrFlippant is very knowledgeable with scally and carrera, he would be my goto guy if I was digital

I got back into the hobby because of digital. I like it a lot. I have a 70' Carrera track that i added borders to and now I am working on adding some 1/24 cars to the mix. I used to race when I was younger and we had a revell 1/24 track. I found some local stores with tracks years ago and it had no interest to me. A flat metal plate with a clear lexan body going about warp 10 around a track. I can understand those that like that, but it never really hooked me. When I found out about the Carrera digital stuff I pretty much jumped in with both feet. The cars are slow and spin out in the corners. They look very nice and I like the lights. It is model car racing. I make cars out of model kits. The multiple cars and lanes are the part I like best. We ran some 4-5 car races on Saturday night and had a good time.

I think this forum seems to have a lot of emphasis on the more expert and veteran racers who share details about making cars go really fast. The digital racing is a slightly different hobby. I do not think you can run digital with super fast cars. It works best with slower cars where you have time to plan your switches.

Well, I like to think we cater to all. I am building a custom midget brass chassis...but just finished a box stock Carrera. Which by the way has a SLOWER motor in it :) In fact most of our simple home racing isn't that advanced at all. Many a car down here has very little work to it.

We try to show both ends of the hobby...sometimes we fail, sometimes not.

I understand there are other forums and if those places are the "go to place" for it, that is great. At least the folks who do it have a spot they like.

So like I said, here is a wide open forum. ANYONE who is into it and wants to start posting and filling this forum with helpful tips and advice...please go ahead. Ken? You want to start posting your track, race results, tuning tips? Bring more folks with you and kick the tires and light the fires as they say. I made it to be used.

But if most that run digital feel it is a waste to have it, well we will just get rid of it. I mean if there are other places that are better and already have a good base, then maybe it is sort of a waste?

In fact, these other forums that ARE the better places to learn...share it.

Post the link to them in here. At least then when a newcomer arrives in here they will see a place to go. Purpose of a forum like this is to help the enthusiasts. So if that means pointing them to another forum? Fine by me :)

I understand the guys who are already highly invested in analog tracks and that is pretty much the case here locally, but after my trip a couple of years ago to Cincy for the LSR where I tried digital for the first time I was hooked. I bought the track, the cars, and then told the local club that I've got all the stuff lets give it a go. After some trial and error we've finally got it up and running and actually the guys are loving the change of pace from analog racing. Our club is a lot more bench racing than actual racing until they come to the digital track. We race more on the digital track in one afternoon than what we have been doing at the analog tracks all month.

An open mind is really the key when trying digital.
