Carrera new and old chip fit the same?

I have about 3 old chassis that use the older style digital chip. I want to use them for a couple of builds and plan to buy new chips for them.
Do I have to find old style chips like the ones that came with them, or will a newer style just drop right in?

If your chassis were made for the old style #26732 chip then the new style #26732 is a direct replacement.
If they were made for a different chip then they will not fit without modifying.

Here's a pic of the New #26732 and the old #26732. The screw hole for mounting the chip to the chassis, the LED and switch are all in the same location.

Thanks. I dropped a bunch of bids on e-bay and will cross my fingers. I want to win a few and get some cars back in to the action.
It is pretty surprising that the cost of the digital chip alone is about 50% or more of the cost of an entire digital car.
