Hi Tom,
Here's is a copy of the rules Dan Dyke made up for the 1/32 scale cars when he started this class. We still pretty much use them but we are pretty loose and don't even tech the cars before or after the race. My PETG (lexan) body is also legal. We also allow any brand of gears, wheels, tires (silicone) or guide flag. We do require you to run a Kysan/Mabuchi 11170 series motors. They cost $1.49 on the internet and I've never seen anyone burn one up yet even on 13.6 volts. You can make your own rules for the tracks that you run in your area.
Current SlotRods Formula Ford 1:32 Rules
Either Dan Dyke’s resin body or Racin’ Ross’s 3d printed body
1) No metal in chassis except running gear, lead for weight, and brass for reinforcing the guide blades or to make an axle housing.
Any type of solid metal, wood, or plastic bearings may be used but no roller or ball bearings may be used.
2) Clay or lead is allowed for ballast
3) Any pinion that works with the motor is allowed. Suggested pinions are as follows:
a. Scalextric makes a variety pack of pinions that are blue and come in a wide range of sizes. These are going out of production and
so are becoming harder to find.
b. BWA makes gears that are the correct inner diameter of 1.5 mm.
c. 2 mm inline gears can be used but you will have to make or buy an adapter sleeve.
4) Crown gears: This rule is restrictive to keep down the cost.
a. SlotIt crown gear -- they may be lathed (this can be done in the car by holding a knife edge to the square edge) or drilled.
b. Ninco F1/CART Crown gear.
6) Plastic, wood, or circuit board may be used in the chassis. Carbon fiber plate and rods may be used for the chassis but not the
axles. JB weld may be used.
7) The narrowest of the SlotIt plastic rims on the front and rear. The narrowest SlotIt aluminum rims can be substituted on the rear.
8) Spec tire FOR OFFICIAL RACES may be designated by the track owner - these will be provided for $2.00 a pair.
9) Any commercially available guide may be used, but must be identified on request.
10) Must be painted
11) Winner may be asked to tear down even if nobody cares.
12) Kysan/Mabuchi 11170 series motors
13) Wheelbase 2.875 to 3.125 - 3" is ideal to shoot for. The rear axle centers on the back edge of the body. TRACK: I know track is
center to center but this is easier to measure.
Outside to Outside of the Rear Tires --- 2.125" (.125 = an eighth of an inch)
Outside to Outside of the Front Tires --- 2.25" (.25 = a quarter of an inch)
14) Rules can be changed after a race by me, but of course you can make suggestions. Nobody gets rules perfect the first time. It
takes time to work them out.
15) Driver and steering wheel must be included.
16) No hypoid gear arrangement may be used.
17) Axles must be 3/32." Front wheels may rotate independently.
18) The car should record zero down force on the magnet marshal and no magnetic fields should be discernible in other areas.
Magnets are allowed on top of the motor to hold the body in place. For specifics talk to Dyno Tom.
19) THE TIRE RULE #2 (See #8) --This is the hardest rule - the tread width should be .350" wide- this does not include the rounded
side wall. Height is not set unless a problem develops from this.
20) I hope I don't need this slot.
