I bought it after using a friend's at the track. But realized the press isn't going to work for the type of motors I use most often. The press is new in the package.

Thanks for asking. It really is a GREAT puller! I love the build quality and how everything fits together so precisely. I mainly need a press for my RMS-124 motors for Carrera D124 cars. There's a short shaft on the non drive end of the motor and the problem with this puller is that it pushes on the plastic endbell which can shove the comm offline with the brushes. I need one that pushes the pinion on one end and the shaft, really short shaft, on the other end. The RMS motors also have a splined shaft for the motor, which means I have to use a lot of force to get the pinion on. I realize that's not an issue with the vast majority of motors. So it's not a short coming on the part of the press, just a unique situation for me. It works great for BRM Scaleauto and all other cars/motors.

I gotcha. Bummer, just looked at mine and a motor like your talking about.
Man if the cupped insert was shallower, and the hole less deep you'd be all set, we all would,
Just a plain turned insert with a center dimple would do it.

What pinions have you put on those motors/cars that you liked?

I bet you could put a dimple on the other end of the cupped insert?

Just a FYI or perhaps not much help at all...but...

If there is this much pressure try this: Run the motor under power (use a 9 volt battery) and use some 800 or 1000 grit sandpaper by hand on the end. Sand the spline smooth (or close) and that will reduce the pressure. It will also help prevent distortion of the pinion and possible cracking, yet still allow enough pressure for a secure pinion.

This Slot.it is a really nice press and puller and I thought guys would jump at the chance to get it at a great price. And I also ordered a Frenkenslot puller and press already; didn't want to have to modify this one since other than my issue it is a fantastic tool. If for some reason the order doesn't arrive I'll explore the other options.
