How to find center of a round bar with a scale

with your bar in a vise, and POWER OFF, lower the bit onto the steel scale

If your bit is to far back the scale will tip up in front, if its to far forward the scale will tip down in the front

when the bit is centered on the bar the scale will sit 90 degree
