Hey that looks neat RM!!!

I like it, and I thought $80 was reasonable for it, was expecting more actually.

Was spraying some armatures with clear acrylic the last couple of days, that stuff sits on your lungs if the ventilation isn't any good!

Hilarious. I was JUST being reamed out the other night for painting. My shop is heated and is part of the main house off the garage - as a result fumes typically can be faintly smelled in the house if I don't open shop window and garage door. I didn't because it was 40 degrees out and night. And the faint smell is if I do 1 car....


....I primed 8 cars. Let's just say the Track Manager was not happy.

I know several folks have built their own and I'm going to have to do the same. I've looked at the one posted and on MicroMark, etc. but the price is a killer for me.

I replaced the turntable with the Tamiya Spray Work set, which is actually two turntables, one of which is ideal for car bodies: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tamiya-74522 ... 0347644494

One thing with the Tamiya turntables: the bearings are so smooth that you will have to wedge a piece of paper between the base and the rotating part to stop it spinning from the spray pressure!

These setups sure do beat my old bent coat hangers. I go outside to spray. I have been thinking of upgrading to one of those booths but Im not sure I want to be spraying inside. I dont like to spray in my garage either as I have 2 cars in there. Maybe one day.

I am a bit useless with the coat hangers. Hopefully these gadgets will improve my dexterity. I need to clean all of the dust out of the garage first!

Hmm...I notice that these all state not to be used with flammable paints...meaning I can't shoot my Duplicolor automotive lacquer?

It has to be able to do that or it does me zero good. I can't remember the last time I used enamel paint.

I think that means: if you are silly enough to start a fire or get poisoned we take no responsibility. The only real danger might be sparking from the fan motor catching flammable paint, although I'd say this is also the case with any home extractor fan set-up. As there is a filter this should generally mean that it would be a case of overspray being sucked in.

These units can also be used without a hose, which means that all it does is filter the air and then pump it back into the environment, which would obviously mean that solvent fumes - the most dangerous part - would remain. That's why they state that they only remove paint particles, not solvent.

Personally I wouldn't use one of these without the extractor hose, or without a mask when spraying lacquers and enamels.

If I built one, which I won't until I build an outdoor workshop, I would use a large fan BUT connect the fan to the motor with a large belt and pulley system to isolate the sparking effect of the motor. Also there would be a metal shroud around the fan. I used to work in a paint shop and their setup was as I described.

I'm not sure if I've posted photos of it before, but here's the spray booth set up I have. As you can tell by its cleanliness I haven't had time to use it yet. It is summer now here in Australia so when I get back from Sydney around Christmas I will have a go at it, as I have pretty much all I need bar the paints.

Seeing as I have two Tamiya turntables I might hot glue this cheap palette to the one that came with the booth (so that the palette doesn't tip and can spin).



The compressor is double-piston Artlogic. The airbrushes are Paasche H and Iwata Eclipse HP-BS.

I bought this set-up (and the Foredom SR and the various other gadgets) when I still had a large disposable income ... figured I should buy it while I didn't notice the financial pain! Not having kids helps too. Kids would only want to play with all my stuff anyway :?

Kids knock the guts out of the income!!!!

Yeah, Paasche brushes, my Brother has them, beautiful, he can get the finest lines out of them, great to watch....
