Timely for me, too. Does he wrap the entire tip of the iron with solder and then let it melt on? What diameter solder does he use, 0.15, 0.22............? Does he use any flux in the iron tip before wrapping with the solder (couldn't get that from the start of the video, although it might have been there.........). Thanks.

:) Well...I just did it. On my new iron that I have used. Now I have kept it clean by using the copper pad.

Worked great! Even on the larger iron that Doc and I bought at the same time that has been used. Cleaned, wrapped, heat and serve :)

Great timing for me too, just received my soldering in the mail. Hakko FX888D.
I did some test soldering last night, I am assuming that I can still use this technique even though the iron has been used once?

Yep, just clean it beforehand. I did both of mine last night and they were both used a few times.
