The narrow one is really handy for getting into tighter places when the parts are pinned to a honeycomb. I have a 25W as well for wiring with only rosin core solder and no acid flux.
I like the idea of this product's base and plug in. You could turn it down the 40W for wiring and turn it up again when you plug in an 80W for heavy brass and piano wire work.

Posted: Thu Aug 27, 2015 5:53 amIt is suitable for brass. Especially lighter work work such as bumpers that use the smaller diameter rod.
But heavier brass will need a larger iron. The larger one I show worked fine on that. I soldered the rails to the PM forged bracket easily enough.
So the 2 units together make a great starter set. And for some people, the cost is a concern. These 2 units together were under $50.00.
