Track paint

Johnny I used Behr sample jars of paint from HomeDepot they were about 5 bucks for a 215ml bottle of white base and they tint them to anything you want. I'm sure they will work with the spray and blot method just fine but the base color my have to dry longer than the Krylon primer before spraying the black and white. I painted my oval flat black and then dry brushed flat grey overtop to get a worn look on the track. Go for it all three colors should come in around 20 to 25 bucks!

I have always used Zinnser 123 Primer. Like it cause it's white then all I have to do is tape it for the road stripes and for rumble strips. With an inexpensive latex paint.

I've used Zinnser 123 recently to cover a dark brown stained luan door on my daughters room and it does cover really really well. Might be a little thick straight up and could do for some thinning if using a roller on the MDF. The idea of pre-taping the rumble strips sounds good. I would imagine going over with many different shades of paint to get the desired tire marked effects.

I wouldn't thin it. Rolls out really nice on MDF with foam roller. I actually use two to three coats. Then use a sanding sponge the next day on it. Tack it off and paint.

Remember MDF don't like water.

Thanks Rusty, right water would deform MDF, duho. I'm just starting out and revelling in new found Carrera plastic track so what do I know :roll: I'm sure one day I will jump into the MDF builders society. I'm learning through you guys and make sure I follow the rules - I have a friend that has the space to build with router tools and borrow his pickup to transfer it to and from my house! :naughty:

If you thin water based paints strange things can happen. One of the guys in my club built a new track and he decided to spray the paint on, so he thinned it. Now the paint keeps dusting off and he has to sand it all off or seal it with something.

I just painted my new oval, I used 3 coats of Wally World satin, had no trouble, it looks great and the tires are sticking

Johnny - I used a satin interior latex on mine. I then misted Apple barrel craft paints over it. Hoped that helped out.

It has been repainted, however there still have been issues with dust that the owner is blaming on the cat!
