The Bondo stuff is really great. If for example you have a slot worn wide, or routed a little wider than intended this stuff is the fix.
One word of caution, if fixing a slot that is sloppy, put a piece of the correct width plastic in the slot, but wrap it in wax paper. That way when the bondo is dry, the wax paper acts as a release agent and gets the plastic or whatever you have used to fix the slot , back out quite easily. Recently redid a friends routed oval with braid.
The braid had bent and the wood under the braid was actually worn away. With bondo and the plastic trick I was able to repack the worn areas using a popsicle stick to packmthe bondo in and it made the track like new again.

Yup, what these guys said. Dries in minutes and works great. Bob is right, I fixed my slots the same way (with a strip covered in wax paper to hold the slot width) and once it's all painted the cars won't tell the difference.

Bondo - the magical exlixir!

One of the raceways in Florida, John's Slot Car Garage, owed it's existence to Bondo.

John Ebersole found a couple of tracks that had been severely damaged. Kind of looked like firewood when he drug them into his "garage".

The surfaces were repaired with Bondo. John's other avocation was that of an auto body man. The tracks are some of the smoothest tracks you will ever race on.

Not sure where in Florida you are going, but there are some great slot spots.
I was welcomed like an old friend at the Race Place in North Daytona a couple years back.
If your in the Area its worth the visit.

Hi Bobby , Florida Slotter or ModlerBob might be better resourcezs for that question.
I'd give them an ask about places down there.
Also if you are going to paint the slots lane colours, I'd probably do it first, then paint the whole track.
But there may be other iideas and opinions out there.

Another thing that you can use if you need to re-route a track section is Durham's Water Putty. I believe that several of our tracks were fixed by putting strips of wood into the slots with Durham's on top of that. If you were not going to color code the slots you would be better off painting them. If water gets into unpainted slots there can be a lot of damage.
